OMG. And I thought it couldn’t get any worse. “Homosexual pederasty”? How about pedophiles are attracted to children; homosexuals are attracted to members of their own sex–NOT children.
What disturbs me is that (so far) we have only heard about altar boys/boys being molested–I’m sure there are many, many girls out there who have also been sexually abused by Father So and So.
How is ANY of this the “liberal elite’s” fault? I so want to be a member of this so called Liberal Elite. I wonder how one gains membership. Could it be by having a brain and being able to connect dots?
Bah. I used to have a tendency to think kindly of them for the most part, even though I was not an active church goer anymore. But after all this, they can just fucking rot in hell.
Now it seems we’re upset about kids being molested and the Church covering it up because we don’t like the Church’s opposition to abortion and same-sex marriage.
Oh, and a gem from the article jayjay linked to:
We were expecting them to elect a non-Catholic to the papacy?
Just how dumb do they think we are?
If you find out, let me know. I’d like to join, too.
If a modern liberal can’t be a Catholic, the church is a political organization, and must be be taxed as one.
These conservative pederast defenders need to stop listening to Rush. I doubt they will.
I mentioned this is another thread (I think) when someone brought up the excellent, heartbreaking documentary Deliver Us From Evil. Someone in it mentions that the priest in question (or perhaps another one, can’t recall) had abused girls as well but only got moved to another town when he started in on boys. When it’s a girl, especially one close to puberty, it’s just too easy to blame it on her being a whore and the priest being weak and only human. When a boy is abused they’re both sinning.
That, and well, it makes a certain amount of sense to start with what so far appears to be the largest systematic coverup of abuse that has been unearthed anywhere, to date, and for which the leaders of the organization in question, all the way to the very top, are still largely unrepentant.
Seriously, I am boggled at how tone-deaf the Catholic Church has been. How can anyone with two synapses to rub together make an analogy between the murder of millions of innocent people and the criticism of the failure to do pretty much anything at all about the rape of thousands of children?
Oh, dear God. It just shows how in a bubble these people really are. They have no connection to reality.
I can well believe that the girls are dismissed as whores. That Irish film (Magdelene something ) a few years ago showed how obsessed the Church seems to be with sex and how repressed they are.
I am back on a full-sized keyboard, at least for now.
I am old enough to remember when day-care centers were centers of Satanic child abuse. I recall recovered memory testimony that destroyed families. I remember when the TV machine told us all that Audis were death machines and that pick-up trucks exploded when hit. We all remember when Bush told us Saddam H was had WMDs.
Now it seems that the RCC is the center of a worldwide conspiracy, but that does not mean it ought to be the sole focus of our attentions. What is the TV not telling us? As I stated, I suspect the behavior of the RCC is fairly close to that of other religious and educational groups.
Consider that when New York (state) extended the Statute of Limitations of child abuse claims, the move was opposed by the RCC, Jewish groups and Protestant denominations. Is this not at least a clue that such behavior was widespread?
Think for yourselves. Do not join a lynch mob. The RCC deserves to be torn apart by the legal system. At this point it seems obvious that will happen. Now, where ought we to look next?
Probably be a good idea to not look away until the legal system is finished with tearing apart the RCC. Don’t wan’t 'em wiggling out of it; that’s the mistake the Catwoman and the Joker and the Riddler and King Tut always made with Batman.
When it comes to the rich and powerful nothing can be taken as obvious, so I think we’ll keep those bright lights focused on the RCC for the time being, if you don’t mind.
One lynching at a time. The Catholic “house” can be cleaned up, and then the next. And the next. Then the next. May as well clean up the biggest rat nest first.
My god. Before I only wished that you only had to spend a few moments of eternity witnessing the hell that is sure to be visited on these people. Now I hope you spend all of it with them.
The real outrage is that the Pope is held to a higher standard than Michael Jackson, or maybe that Jackson got a golden coffin when the Vatican is restricted to objects of clay and wood.
So we liberals can say now that anybody who opposes abortion and same-sex marriage must be in favor of child molestation and cover-ups of child molestation?
There need to be protections for people, including priests, who are accused of molesting children, just like there need to be protections for people accused of all crimes. But those protections shouldn’t be so strong that no priest can ever be punished by the civil authorities for molesting children.
But if you’re not going to be held to a higher moral standard than Michael Jackson, you also don’t get more moral authority than Michael Jackson. You can’t have it both ways.
