Archiving SDMB

A suggestion instead of deleting the messages that are older would be to archive them for posterity… there are MANY MANY messages on the board, and if they are deleted, then questions which were asked before will just be asked again…

I think it would be in all our interest to archive all the posts up to the present, and save them as a readonly archive…

I know I would be interested, and im pretty sure many others would also

What do all you others think about this idea? Ive sent this in an email to Ed Zotti but I think it would help to have a discussion here also

my idea is to do something like what http://www.sijun.com did on their message board

Please post your comments here

p.s. if this isnt the proper place to post this, admins please accept my humble apologies and move it.

That’s not a bad idea, if it’s do-able…

If space is an issue, perhaps only the OPs and the (correct answer could be archived, deleting all of the WAGs, jokes, etc. (of course this would require someone going through all of those threads to delete the fluff, so that may be unrealistic)

or maybe the archives could be stored elsewhere, if space is an issue…

i’d hate to see ALL discussions that arent considered current to be deleted
