I tried looking around for the answer. Apparently one beekeeper doesn’t think so. It’s my understanding that they are a very hygienic race, so things like veroa mites aren’t an issue. Since veroa mites are strongly implicated in CCD, I wonder if they are suffering the same losses as the commercial Italians are.
What about CCD in South America, since most bees there are Africanized. Is it occurring at the same rate?
The latest horrifying incident of bee attack.
It’s not really what I’m asking, but its nice to know someone is at least paying attention. The media really likes to hype the Africanized bee thing. While they certainly require different precautions, they are perfectly manageable. There is really no telling what caused the aggression, or what caused the death here. Simple bee allergies cause more deaths each year than Africanized bees do, but that’s irrelevant to the question. With all the terror about pollinators vanishing, I want to know if this pollinator is vanishing and why not.
