Are All Of Freud's Hypotheses Discredited?

Sigmund Freud is one of the towering figures of late 19th century thought. His psycho anlytical methods, theories on the meaning of dreams, the ID, Ego, and Superego, and so forth once were once the mainstay’s odf psychogy. But over time, my understanding is that almost everything Sigmund Freud postulated has proven at best only partially explanatary and at worst proven to be have been dangerous, full of quasi-science that has hurt more people than it has helped. So where stand Sugmund Freud and his theories in this day and age?

I believe “all” might be a bit too broad, but a lot have certainly come under heavy criticism.

I think that part about the cure for hysteria in the late 1800s is still being generally practiced by a good many people today.

He still has his supporters. The May 2004 issue of Scientific American had an article about how current models of how the brain forms memories seem to agree with Freudian theory.

Many people don’t realize that Freud’s arguments for atheism push the forefront of the modern atheist movement. They cannot be proven, and they cannot be disproven. Someday either will be possible, but not today. If your interested search around Google for the terms Freud, religion, and institution. Freud’s greatest contribution was undoubtedly extropolating and popularizing the subconscious vice the conscious mind. A quack? Probably sometimes, but a brilliant quack.

There’s an atheist movement? Where?

I just flushed it =)
