I have shopped at Amazon for years and have noticed in the past month their prices have skyrocketed. Has anyone else noticed? I am buying the usual gifts…Wii games, CDs and electronics and the prices are getting ridiculous.
It’s coming up on Christmas; the prices will creep up more towards standard prices to take advantage of the people who want to buy now but want to deal with it online. Once the holidays are past, prices will come down more again.
That being said, I haven’t seen any abnormal fluctuations in the stuff in my shopping cart (being saved for later). Prices go up and down periodically.
They go up, they go down (sometimes daily). Take a look at CamelCamelCamel. It tracks all the history of all price changes on Amazon. You can check out the roller-coaster pricing yourself.
I guess it depends on what you’re buying. I’ve noticed “down” more often. I don’t think I’ve ever found better prices on anything than on Amazon.
They jacked up the prices of some PC games. For quite some time, Xbox 360 and PS3 games were about $10 more than PC ($60 and $50, respectively), but console games came with $10 in credit or something like that. Now, they are more expensive, e.g. Modern Warfare 3 is $52 on consoles and $58 on PC, or at the time of release Skyrim was $60 on console but $0.50 less for PC, except console had the credit.
