Are any of the Bolo novels worth reading?

As a fan of military science fiction, I have heard of the Bolo superheavy tanks in the past, but I’ve never read any of the books.

Are they worth tracking down, for someone who enjoys things like Starship Troopers or Dan Abnett’s Gaunt’s Ghosts novels? If so, which books, or which authors, are the best?

Most of them pretty much stand on their own as far as I can recall. I would probably start with the original Keith Laumer books. My favorite out of all of them including Laumer’s work was *The Road to Damascus * by John Ringo. David Weber and William Keith have also written recent incarnations.

I’ve only read Laumer’s original stories, but agree that they’re definitely worth checking out.

I’m also interested in this question because I have just read an anthology of David Weber’s short (really shortish) stories, Worlds of Weber, which had two Bolo stories in it. I enjoyed the stories, though they reminded me heavily of Isaac Asimov’s I, Robot stories.

I’m wondering if I should start with the whole Bolo series, and if so is there an order to read them in?

Not really; they aren’t so much a series as a bunch of stories set in the same universe.
