The UK couldn’t get the votes, and there is a good chance that a US strike will not be approved by congress. So what other nations are considering an independent strike against Syria outside of the UN security council?
I know France is, but I don’t know if they are bluster or actually serious. Plus I don’t know if they have the ability to get a strike through their legislature either.
Other than that, are other nations considering an attack against the Syrian government?
Considering a strike, but I’m pretty sure it won’t happen if the USA doesn’t attack too
The legislature shouldn’t be an issue. The governement has a firm majority in the parliament and last time I checked, the population was supportive too (45% for, 40% against).
Saudi Arabia really would like somebody to strike Syria, especially (it seems) the US, but do not seem to be willing to exert themselves in that manner.
I would think Israel would favor whatever course of action is least likely to result in Israel being attacked, correct? I’d would think that would be the US not interfering, or anyone else, as that is what makes it more likely to spread the conflict beyond Syria’s borders.
I know you can’t speak for all of Israel, but it’s been reported int he US that “Israel” (and I assume they mean the government) does not want an attack. They prefer the Assad Devil to the Devil who might replace him.
In theory, yes. We would have preferred if Obama hadn’t said anything to begin with.
However, now that he did say something, he has to follow through. Otherwise the consequences will be very dire as far as we’re concerned. As things stand now, Syria, Hizballah and Iran think they’ve beaten America - that Obama threatened them, Assad stood his ground, and Obama blinked first. That may mean little to you, but to us, that’s a big deal. Embolden by their supposed victory, who knows what they’ll do next?
Plus, we now know that we’re all alone on the Iranian nuclear program - the U.S. certainly can’t be trusted to use force to end that. Expect an Israeli attack on Iran within the next few months.
