Are any team competitions less of a team competition than the Davis Cup?

With Andy Murray winning the Davis Cup today practically single-handedly, it got me wondering if there are any other “team” events with a similar status that rely as heavily on just one good player?

FYI, it’s a best of 5 matches format, four singles games and one doubles. In the quarter-final, semi-final, and final, Murray won 3 matches in each. No other Brit won a singles match, and (by the by) Murray’s partner in the three winning doubles was his brother.

Auto racing, and as LeBron James has shown, for some teams the NBA.

NFL football, your going to have a hard time winning the Super Bowl sans a high caliber QB.

Most years, hockey is very goalie oriented—theres so much shooting if you don’t have a good goalie, your gonna get smoked.

If it wasn’t for James Ward beating John Isner, the UK wouldn’t have beaten the US and would have gone out in the first round.

I get your point, but that was also a vital win.

What sort of auto racing? It certainly isn’t true of F1.

And LeBron never won a title until he went to Miami with two other All-Stars (though he singlehandedly made the Cavaliers very good).
