Mmm, I think it’s more complex than that. Tucked is more formal, and there are situations where untucked is the wrong choice for everyone. However, if you’ve got enough gut to show a bulge when tucked (and I do, and I’m not overweight, just not rail-skinny like I used to be) and the situation is informal, untucked can be better.
