Are Luxury German Cars Better Cars?

Hey if you are reported.

Thank you.

I LOVE you guys! (and by love I mean, like a man Loves a good beer, or astounding Forum Moderation)

Like any other expensive item, your statement is true for a lot of people, who buy high-quality products simply to demonstrate that they can afford them, without really appreciating or caring about what makes them high-quality in the first place.

Other people, like myself, buy nice things for their own enjoyment, couldn’t care less what some random dipshit on the road thinks of their car, and resent characterizations like yours.

BMW and Porsche make cars that are actually fantastic to drive. They are tight, smooth and precise. I bought a BMW because I do a lot of driving and I can’t stand driving cars that don’t handle well. I’ve put 140,000 miles on it, spent about $2,000 in unscheduled maintenance, and it still handles great. I took it in for an oil change last week and my mechanic told me it’s in perfect shape.

At this point, it looks a little dated and has some cosmetic damage from rock chips and people who are bad at parking. The book value is about $8,000 - hardly enough to impress anyone anymore. If I cared about impressing people, I would’ve bought a new BMW years ago.

Porsche reliability is supposed to be even better. Most people don’t seem to notice that they regularly beat Lexus for the #1 spot in quality and reliability rankings.
