Our film school teacher shared with us this piece of information:
The better the movie looks, from the visual standpoint, the higher the audiences expectations become.
Thus, as movies nowadays look, for the most part, absolutely gorgeous, our expectations for them skyrocket. When we realize that the story and similar, non-visual things of the movie are of the same quality as they’ve always been, we become disappointed and thus the movie doesn’t seem quite as good as those older movies where the visuals weren’t quite as good.
It’s an unconscious thing to do, but our teacher says it happens.
I agree with whoever said they want “more good bad movies”.
I’m willing to watch fun dreck - as long as it is actually fun.
Give me shallow comedies which are funny, pointless action movies which are thrilling, trivial romances which are charming - I’ll watch 'em all, and like 'em.
However, give me shallow comedies which don’t make me laugh, pointless action movies which make me yawn, and trivial romances which make me barf, and I’ll be dissapointed, and say as much.
I also agree with the “Good bad movies” suggestion.
Kung Pow was an Awesome movie. And I also enjoy movies like Road Trip, Bill and Ted’s (EA +BJ), etc.
But nothing compares to a good movie; 12 Monkeys, Way of the gun, Memento, etc.
I enjoy watching good movies as well as bad movies, as long as the bad movies arent 2 and a half hours of long, boring, no plot, nothingness.
If its a simple movie with a lil action, a bit of humor, (and some sex appeal is always nice), and wont put me to sleep; I will most likely watch it.
