Thank you for that authentic bit of political gibberish, John. If you feel that my conclusions are false, or my premises are wrong, perhaps you could instruct me and those so foolish as to agree with me. I wait with bated breath (I’m using worms today!)
I would just add Bruce Lawrence’s Defenders of God to the reading list here. Lawrence origianlly laid out the case that fundamentalism is a reaction to modernism. Armstrong covered much of the same ground.
Point taken. But as there IS a signifigent overlap between far right politics and (generally) fundamentalist Christianity, I think it’s more than relavent.
Actually, there isn’t. But you need to hold the goalposts steady if we’re going to debate. We went from “conservative” to “Christian fundamentalism” to “far right politics”. Each of those is quite distinct.
I’ll probably get laughed at, but what is a guck? I never heard that one before.
No such thing as a stupid question.
The OP is close…
Both sides seem to be using the spotlight to gain more recruits and support for their causes. Rallying calls in a way. Both seem to view the world as black and white too.
Almost as an aside to this, I have heard self-identified conservatives in this country say that they have no problem with US forces targeting civilians. Pretty much that Muslims deserve to die.
I would not say that this is the majority view among conservatives here, but it does exist. Nor would I say that it is the majority attitude among conservative/fundie Muslims.
But it does exist.
This OP needs to be grounded, given an important tweak and then put back out on the runway to take off anew.
The OP is never going to fly while one wing is Muslim Fundamentalist and the other is American Conservative.
American Conservative is a huge amorphous mass, large parts of which don’t provide any symmetry to the wing on the other side at all.
This whole thing is going to go into an unrecoverable spin unless American Conservative is unbolted and replaced with Christian Fundamentalist.
Then this baby will soar.
“Slightly to the right” on the keyboard. Thanks!
