Are muslims ever NOT "outraged" by something?

So we’re going to be as selective with quotations from this statement as we were with those from the original speech?

Whereas it’s impossible to convince a majority of Americans that Saddam Hussein was involved with the 9/11 attacks when he in fact had absolutely nothing to do with them, and doubly impossible to convince them of that without ever once stating that Hussein had anything to do with it, and even overtly denying it.

People are gullible. That’s just the way it is.

Um, I’m going to selectively quote the lines I have an objection to, yeah. I don’t see the problem. I haven’t changed the context. He explicitly makes his “apology” passive, and does not, in fact, take responsibility. The quotes I supplied are the parts of his speech in which he explicitly does this.

Perhaps lissner should ‘listen’ before ‘talking’.

Responsibility for what? Muslims taking his words out of context & slaying a Catholic nun?

Well then if we’re drawing lots, whose side does the Vatican seem to be on? To me Benedict’s eloquent little fable seems to be a florid yet moving way of saying “bring it on.”

Stinkpalm: World War III was the Cold War. We are currently engaged in the early stages of World War IV. Have you not noticed what’s been going on in Cuba for the last few days?

I’m sorry, I didn’t see your link.

No, he’s saying that countries would self-select, pro Islamic extremism or anti Islamic extremism. And it wouldn’t be genocide, since if, as many in this thread say, most Muslims are against that sort of thing (probably true in the West, but in the global population I’m not so sure), they would not side with the whackos.

Unfortunately, I don’t see this happening anytime soon; Europe is too used to bending to the wants of its Muslim community (see reaction to Denmark cartoons), and the US, by and large, is no longer willing to take action without at least some measure of international support. But that’s what he was saying.

I hope you are right, but you are interpreting his post a lot more generously than I am capable of.

I wouldn’t put down the nun’s death as an isolated incident. Just related to the militia that seems to have take over Mogadishu.

Thanks for the news. I’ve been looking for information on foreign nuns +1 murdered in Somalia in the last few months. I can’t find any. I don’t blame you for doubting; my first and most cynical thought was the women’s clinic where she worked might’ve been providing feminine health care and reproductive services.

But then I remembered “NUN” and I was back to square 1.

Then it hit me. From the back, four men shot the hell out of a nun and her bodyguard outside of the hospital where they both worked. Cui bono?

It’s the best he could do without bullshitting, because he never insulted Islam to begin with. While giving an academic lecture (full text here), he quoted an anti-muslim statement by some guy who’s been dead for 600 years, because it related to a completely different point of his own about the relationship between faith and reason.

Imho, the Pope ought to tell them to get bent. Or stuffed, whichever his Popeness prefers.

But he can’t do that! They might get outraged!

Not hardly a new phenomenon. Thousands protested when The Last Temptation of Christ was released- never having seen the film. They were doing what their fellows were doing. Not because they knew firsthand that they themselves objected, but because they knew that their fellows objected, and their religious leadership objected.

From the Wikipedia cite on The Last Temptation of Christ:

( IMDB had a dearth of controversy-related information. )

Apparently blindly following the actions of others is a big part of this- be the followers Christians, Muslims or Jews.

Very sad.

Cartooniverse

No, he’s not. He’s not saying anything like that. Nowhere in that post does he make any distinction between moderate and extremist Islam. He specifcally says nations will have to choose between being for or against Islam as a whole, that the whole religion is a “cancer,” and that all of them need to be “cleared out.” It’s as clear a call for genocide as I’ve ever seen on these boards.

One of the “offensive cartoons” was actually a wire photo that had nothing to do with the Danish paper (it was French) or Islam. It was a picture of a guy with a pig mask on. Somehow, it just got bunched together with the Danish cartoons with a new caption that said it was Muhammad. Must’ve been a misunderstanding on the Imams’ part.

Stinkpalm, please come back and give us a little more info. Do you really want to kill a billion Muslims, or just the naughty ones? And if so, would that be just Muslims who commit violence, or also Muslims who annoy you by protesting? How about Muslims who just look at you wrong?

I’m sponsoring a nine-year-old girl in Mali; she’s a Muslim. Does she get a bullet in the head, or will she be put in a work camp, or what?

Maybe StinkPalm has a nice recipe for Muslim soap?
I think he should try reading some history books. (Fucking nazi dumbass)

What Stinkpalm is saying is that he feels that within 10 years entire nations will say enough is enough and take sides one way or the other.

I don’t think Stinkpalm is advocating genocide, he’s just saying what he thinks could happen
