Are Orthodox Jews Allowed to Smoke?

Nope. I grew up in a home with a heavy smoker and realized at an early age that it was not a proper thing to do.

Not me. My father smoked until I was 13…he quit for heart-related reasons (although thank G-d, he never got an actual heart attack) just before my Bar Mitzvah. Don’t like the smell of the stuff, don’t see the appeal of the stuff. That’s on top of the well-known health risks.

Also a non-smoker… I guess we Jews are a pious lot.

My father smoked until I was 14 or so… When I stole his cigs and tried it he told me he wasn’t mad and asked if I enjoyed it. I answered truthfully that I had not.

Although, I am known to enjoy a fine cigar every month or so. Does that count?
