Concur with CurtC… During freefall, the sensation is very much wind in the face / noise in the ears - no passing out, unless maybe it was from pure fright. Curt, are you a fellow skydiver or was the break on a tandem jump??
I’ll attest to that. My first couple of jumps were “night jumps” even though they occured in the daytime. I have no recollection between “Go!” and “I’m under a canopy.”
I don’t see any reason why just the act of falling alone would kill someone. I do think, though, that the sensory overload mentioned above probably “anaesthetized” them somewhat.
