Are posters now forbidden to imply rule violations in the Pit?

Could you just point to some constant lies and idiotic arguments that don’t have mod implications instead?

I, for one, would be interested to see them.

You should try it, it’s a really easy job. Word on the street is that you don’t have to do any moderating at all.

Um… You do post there. Some pretty inflammatory things.

Finally a mod instruction that is clear and concise and makes sense. Thanks Miller.

Plus, and let’s be totally open and transparent, I have a weird memory quirk with regards to SDMB rules (I wish I could remember birthdays as easily) and I might possibly have a slight tendency to rules-lawyer, cite stuff, etc. I’m just saying it’s possible, is all.

So for that thread, while I found that one-shot rule a little frustrating (I had to go a different route than I took), I completely understand Miller’s intent with it.

(If it was a general rule for the whole board, I’d have some serious concerns)

Um…for form’s sake though, he’s still a jackbooted thug who’s oppressing me terribly though. ‘elp! elp! I’m bein’ repressed!

Shut up.

It depends: were you just making a big stink in ATMB about [Poster] not being banned? Then yeah, that’s going to get you modded, because it’s a pretty transparent attempt to restart an argument about the board’s moderation in the Pit. On the other hand, if you’re just calling out another poster in the course of a regular Pit thread, then I’m not going to mod it.

In the interest of accuracy: in the last three years, I’ve posted nine times. So, yes, I should have said “I do not regularly read the Pit, I only read the Pit on extraordinarily rare occasions, if there’s is absolutely nothing else to do.” My apologies for being imprecise. (And if you think that what I posted was “inflammatory,” then I’d bet that you don’t read the Pit much, either  )

You’ve defined “being a Charter Member” pretty well, especially one of a non-typical political persuasion. Add to that the fact that Charter Members pay for it. And yet I manage to survive somehow.

As I mentioned, there would be no expectation that any of the mods (except the Pit mod) would have to respond to, or even to read, the Pittings.

IANAMod, but I have come for a bit more than my share of the kind of abuse you describe for other reasons. And it is still only a messageboard.

Regards,
Shodan

Weeeeeell allright then. True enough. But don’t let me catch you again :stuck_out_tongue:

Then why was my threadshut down?

Seems to me Miller gave pretty clear examples in that post. He wanted the thread to focus on “you’re an asshole because you threadshit and hijack and generally smell bad” rather than make any steps toward “you’re an asshole because the mods let you break rules and get away with it”.

Furthermore, in the Pit

“you break the rules” = generally acceptable

“the mods let you get away with breaking the rules” = not acceptable.

The first is about the person’s actions, the second is criticizing the moderators.

That’s my take, anyway. I’m confused why you would think there’s more to it than that.

I’ve sent you a couple PMs. I have not heard back directly from you.

And I’ve seen correspondence you had with Dex as well. Do you feel your issue is not being handled?

I do not feel I’d get a fair hearing corresponding with you directly.

I request the right to state my case on the board, like everyone else.
As for Dex, he told me that my request to reopen the thread is being considered. That was two and a half days ago, and I’ve heard nothing from him since.

Look, I don’t remember having any interactions with you or have much of an impression of you or what your style of posting is like or your personal or political beliefs so hopefully you feel the same of me.

Speaking as an observer and someone who’s sometimes butted heads with mods, making public complaints like this isn’t going to get anyway on your side except the people who are already reflexively anti-moderator for whatever reason.

I’d recommend restricting this argument to the PMs.

I think not. See the reactionto her warning on the original thread, where several people disagreed with her, and are not noticeably anti-mod.

I want this done out in the open. I want her to see the many voices of reason raised against her.

  1. There is no case to state, really.

From the registration agreement:

You threw personals insults in About This Message Board. Everyone was reminded about the rule in that very thread before you made your posting. You’ve been here since 2003 and know better, or should know better.

The warning stands.

  1. After discussion we decided not to reopen the thread. I’m sorry Dex didn’t make that clear to you, but I believe he is out of town right now so that may have gotten past him.

There most certainly is a case to state. Why won’t you let me state it?

I WAS civil, and I DID NOT throw any insults.

State the reasons why the thread was closed, and why it wasn’t reopened.

I don’t have much to offer to the thread, but thought I’d mention this:

In an earlier thread where some of this discussion was taking place, I was doing a search on TubaDiva’s name in the search box to see what the original point of contention was about.

As I got to tubadiv. . ., two names popped up. One was our own humble TubaDiva, and the other one was a person who made a rather snide username taking a swipe at TubaDiva. (If you look it up, and look at the name closely, you’ll see what I mean.) Either the person never posted, or all the posts were deleted.

Anyway. . . buh-DEE buh-DEE, that’s all folks!
