And if not, WHY?
Some of the books I’ve read about prison refer to porn magazines as being contraband material - not officially allowed, yet many people had them. What is the logic of making them contraband at all?

Prisons are not supposed to be happy places.
Being in prison is supposed to be about taking away someone’s freedom and privileges, however considering the plethora of contraband you might find in a prison, finding an inmate with a porn magazine is at lot less worrisome than finding an inmate with a weapon.
I think this is the real reason. You want to limit anything that is going to cause potential conflict.
Think of it like this. Mr RoadRunner and Mr Coyote are in jail
Mr RoadRunner has porn, Mr Coyote does not. Mr Coyote wants porn and he’s bigger than Mr RoadRunner. Now guess what happens?
That’s right a cartoon with hilarious chases and anvils being dropped
They should just pass it out to everyone. The release of sexual urges is a basic human need; without it, guys go crazy. Isn’t it logical to keep those urges in check, in an environment like a prison?
Access to porn is not a basic human need.
Suppose the OP were phrased differently. Like: Why are they allowed other sorts of reading material, but not porn?
I mean, if the only reading material available was comic books, they’d fight over that too, so is there any real difference?
But we are a christian and moral country, and sex is evil unless it is solely for procreation between a man married to a woman. Fapping is the is the sin of Onan and evil. Sheehs.
I would think that some form of release would relieve tensions and be a good thing. Sexual release is a seriously major component of human health. Solo or interactive…
In NY, the only current restriction is you can’t have anything illegal (duh) and you can’t have anything “home made” (in other words, your wife or girlfriend can’t send you nude pictures of herself). And you can’t display it publicly.
It used to be you couldn’t have any porn that showed explicit penetration but that rule was changed years ago.
Just because porn is banned doesn’t necessarily mean masturbation is.
So says you.
And seriously undervalued.
It? what it? convict porn?
Who says they aren’t releasing sexual urges now without porn? :dubious:
Even with their sexual releases can some still go crazy in prison? Keeping urges in check, says you, with porn…so is the pron supposed to keep what urges in check?
would you like a prescription for prisoners for porn so they can keep from going crazy by not releasing their urges?
Uh, he’s not talking about getting a prescription for porn. He’s talking about how, if we allow prisoners to buy regular magazines like The Atlantic, what’s the sense in banning Playboy? Because if it’s just because prison isn’t supposed to be fun, why don’t they ban The Atlantic too?
I think prisons have a vested interest in making sure prisoners aren’t bored out of their skulls, because bored prisoners cause trouble. Prisoners lying in their bunks reading The Atlantic and Playboy aren’t getting into trouble.
But only if they read it for the articles, right?
Prisons have libraries. Seems like a section of porn in the prison library would be checked out frequently.
They’re allowed to have fuzzy britches.
and stained.
Have you ever read The Atlantic?
I saw on one of those documentary shows a prison that would freak out if the prisoner was seen masturbating or having sex with another inmate.
