Are public performances of Wagner still rare in Israel?

ISTR there was a long time when Richard Wagner’s work just wasn’t performed publicly at all in Israel, due to his rabid anti-Semitism and the Nazis’ embrace of his music. Then I read that there had been a few concerts of his work in Israel (at least one of which was disrupted by a screaming concentration camp survivor). Is Wagner now as often performed as any other classical composer in Israel, all in all, or is he still in a bad odor there?

there are a lot of wagner pieces in pop media. i often hear the valakarie played whenever the theme is either flight, women of power, or german cars.

I’m not all that involved in the Israeli classical music scene, to say the least, but to the best of my knowledge Wagner is not performed live, nor is his music played on the radio. It’s a policy that has led to several controversies.

Of course, Wagner’s disks are available for sale (insomuch as disks are still sold these days), and as **mac **noted, his music is used in contexts other than formal performances.
