Are reddit moderators asleep at the wheel?

Reddit is probably one of the least moderated places I have ever seen, stuff that I would assume no company would want to touch with a ten foot pole.

There is a reddit for loaning people money where the guide posted on the side says use paypal but make sure you lie because they don’t allow this.:dubious:

There are reddits where illegal drugs are being openly sold, not even in PM.(no doubt plenty of scammers there)

I think the only time I have seen the admin or main staff make a pronouncement was that they were cracking down on threats of suicide being posted.

Odd place.

FWIW, it’s owned by Conde Nast.

Depends on the subreddit. Try to go into AskHistorians and make assertions without providing cites - your post will be deleted in seconds. The moderators there are very strict (and it makes that particular subreddit extremely useful as a result).

The problem is that there are literally thousands of subreddits. Reddit doesn’t assign moderators, as far as I know, either. The people who make the subreddit can moderate or give other people permission to moderate. As a result, there are some overly strict areas and some lawless wastelands.
