First I wanna extend my appologies for my ignorance of his status as a prisoner. Is he a POW? An international criminal (under what code of law?)? How is he classified?
And then the real question: Is he allowed visits from the Red Crescent? Red Cross? Amnesty International? Remaining family? Representatives from any level of government of Iraq (apart from visits from US interrogators)? Can I send him a box of cookies (throguh proper channels, of course)? If not, would someone else in his prisoner status be entitled to any of this?
Saddam was declared by the United States to be a POW entitled to the requisite protections, and the ICRC has visited Saddam. Cite.
The Red Cross does not, as a rule, publicize its findings about treatment of prisoners. Their view is that they will work privately with detaining authorities to address problems. In the view of the Red Cross, this allows continuing access to POWs because there is no chance that the detaining powers will be embarassed by a ICRC press conference.
Meaning what? That we are justified in using any means when we interrogate him, so long as they are just short of his own atrocities? Do you think we should abide by the Geneva Conventions, or do you think they do not apply towards monsters like Saddam?
The question is a valid one and your post wants to discredit it. Your post does not answer the question being asked in any way and is just the start of a debate about whether the USA would be justified in sinking to Saddam’s level as some seem to think would be okay and your post seems to imply.
