Are the rest stops in Florida still manned?

We’re going on a road trip soon, about 20 hours. The last time we did one of this degree was in college. It was 22 hours to Ft. Lauderdale, and we made it in a total of 24, stopping once at a rest stop for a 2-hour nap.

That was almost nine years ago, and our tolerance for that kind of driving has definitely waned. My question is, are the rest stops there still manned? It felt pretty safe sleeping in our car at the time, and if possible, we’d really like to save the hotel money.

Would you sleep there? Do you know of any alternatives to hotels for a married couple?

Truck stops.

Yes, the larger rest areas along the free Interstates are still manned. Rest areas along the Florida’s Turnpike are heavily staffed, considering their restaurants and gas stations.

Truck stops might work, but they’re noisier and busier than rest stops. Truck stops also have a few more unsavory elements, such as lot lizards and scammers begging for “gas money.”

Some are, some aren’t. The ones that are though, will likely come boot your ass and tell you to find a hotel. You may luck out though.
