Are there any Android games that don't suck?

I bought the humble Indie bundle. Most of the games won’t install due to something called a parse error. I don’t know what that is and don’t have time to fuck with it right now.

Actually I have been impressed with the quality of Android games. I bought the Galaxy Note a few months back and it’s a stellar gaming device which got me buying and playing a bunch of Android games.

Here are some that I have enjoyed:

Osmos HD
World of Goo
Riptide GP
Sentinel 3
Quell Reflect
Air Attack HD
Flick Soccer
Apparatus
Zixxby
Great Little War

I think all of them have paid ad-free versions.

Angry Birds Space is also available paid without ads. Where’s my water? and Anomaly Warzone also look interesting and I may give them a go sometime.

There are also a bunch of Kairosoft games which people like. I downloaded the free version of Game Developer Story. It seems quite fun and I may get the paid version later.

I don’t know how it would be to play it on a tablet, but Plants vs Zombies is great fun for the xbox and pc.

I’ve played it on my phone and on my GF’s Kindle Fire. It’s actually a bit easier, you don’t have to bother with a cursor, you just touch and drop, or drag.

Tripletown is realy fun/cute puzzel game,

you have to build a kingdom by combining groups of 3,

3 grass makes 1 bush
3 bushes makes 1 tree
3 trees makes 1 hut
3 huts makes 1 house
etc, etc

you can play it for free but you get a limit on how many moves you can make each day, or buy for less then you would pay for a cup of coffee and get unlimited turns

One fun little diversion is Alchemy. You start with the four classic elements, Earth, Air, Fire, and Water, and combine them two at a time to make something new. Like, earth plus fire makes lava, lava plus air makes stone, stone plus water makes sand, sand plus fire makes glass, and so on. As the materials get more complex, the combinations get more creative. Like, Coca-Cola plus country makes USA. Don’t forget to combine something with itself once in a while to see what happens, like city plus city makes country.

Unfortunately, the only “tablet” edition of Plants vs Zombies is for the Kindle Fire. The normal android phone version is buggy and has lots of compatibility issues, and from my cursory research it also doesn’t run on the latest version of Android (ICS). Even if it will run, it will be rather stretchy since the graphics were intended for much smaller, lower-resolution phones.

Which is a damn shame. It’s an amazing game, and I’ve heard that the ipad version is essentially the best, since it works so well with the tablet interface.

Does it have any annotated games / classic games database?
I’m struggling to find a chess app that has this feature (all the reviews of chess apps just go on about engine strength, which is far from a concern at my level).

If you like Dominion, there’s also Fortunes of War, which is quite similar (without the depth of cards). It has the advantage of supporting multiplayer.

They have fixed at least the bug where on the Roof levels the zombies do not appear at all times to be in the lane that the computer thinks they’re in. But more importantly, the Android version has no Zen Garden or Puzzle and Survival modes. It’s really a fraction of the game that you can apparently get on iPod.

Paladog came free as part of some Samsung package for my phone. I believe other android tablets have to pay for it. It’s the funnest tower defense/offense game that I have played on a touchscreen device. I love it.

I don’t see it mentioned here, but I like Defender, the slightly upgraded Defender 2 was just released last week and is even better. I’m a big fan of upgrade based games, and that’s the main focus of this. It’s very addictive if you love upgrades, but probably equally repetitive if you don’t.

There is a video tab, and one of the categories it has is “amazing games” - i have no idea if they’re annoted or not though, and it’s only available to paid subscribers. Info on the different subscriptions is available on the chess website - I’m not sure which one you need to have access to the videos on the app, though.

I’ll second Alchemy. Creative and fun.

I really enjoyed Gurk II. It’s a simple 8-bit RPG along the lines of the old Ultima and early D&D games for C64.

The original Gurk is free but not quite as much fun. I also found it annoying to play on my Galaxy Tab due to the controls being too close together.
