A raw, spicy green pepper is a popular appetizer in Korea. I don’t care for it much, but my Korean hosts gobbled them down nonchalantly.

It’s anecdotal, and second-hand, but my mother used to tell me about her father eating hot Italian peppers raw out of hand, like they were popcorn.
My SO is from Mexico and he’d eat them straight out of our garden. He said when he was a kid they often had nothing but peppers and tomato salsa with tortillas for months.
This is pretty common all over India.
