Im posting this thread because I’m almost 14 and I’ve heard from someone that they work for a corporate company and work from home from their computer…something about reviewing surveys and such. Is this true? If so…then are there more out there that pay more than minimum wage?(the minimum here is $7.50 an hour. Thanks.
Where do you live? I’ve never heard of anywhere, and certainly not in the US, where the minimum wage is $7.50. It’s $5.15 here.
As to your question, it will be vary hard, if not impossible to find an online job that pays an hourly wage, especially at your age. Hell if you do let me know, I could use an extra $7.50 in my spare time :).
Even if I knew of such a company (web site), is it within the rules to give out this information in the SDMB? Might be touchy.
The $7.50 minimum wage could be the “market minimum wage” and not the one that congress sets. To find out the “MMW” you find out what McDonalds pays new employees. Most teens know this number and will not work for less, therefore it is the minimum wage.
I think $6 is average. If anyone does find a company let me know too. I rather work online then in real life cause then no expenses of car and do it right from your home. I am 17.
YES! I’ve found it! Ok people for all of you that wanted to know about the on-line business (and for myself as well) go to www.surveysforteens.com (for the youth, tho) and for you alleged adults go to www.google.com for the meanwhile. If there are any other oppurtunities out there that I haven’t known about please someone please post it here. Thank You.

There is a federal minimum wage which applies to all states. However, some states have minimum wage laws where the mimimum wage for all jobs is above the federal requirement, notable the West Coast and Upper New England states.
See http://www.dol.gov/esa/minwage/america.htm

As for being 14 and wanting to work, there are also federal and state minimum age laws as well.
See
fauxpas, the link doesn’t work. For me, at least. This could actually be interesting, I need a job myself and doing this is a hell of a lot better than cleaning toilets at McD’s.
My parents agree with this discovery and in 10 days Ill begin working with one of these companies! About the link tho, I think its something else perhaps. Well I’ll tell you when I find it.
AHHHH! How ignorant of me, the link isnt that, im sorrySplanky, its www.teensurveys.com Forgive me.

Don’t waste your time, hon. I did, so I can speak from experience. Opinionsurveys and teensurveys arent going to pay you. You will occasionally be directed toward freebies that other sites have for less work, and you are entered into sweepstakes. I entered thousands and Ive never won a single thing. I also got stuck on too many mailing lists and snailmail lists. The most frustrating part was the magazines they started sending…then billing me for… then turned over to collection agencies when I refused to pay.
The freebie sites are far more fruitful.
My suggestion is to learn to type really fast and maybe you could process applications one day. I have a friend that does this but you have to be 18 and its a local company that advertised in our paper.
Or you could do what my daughter does and babysit.
Good luck though.
awww…well thanks for your help Rushgeekgirl, I’ll most likely work with computers at Best Buy, lol.
