By that I mean an actual application that can be used to learn the techniques in Guitar Hero. I know I can practice sections of songs that come with the game, but I want something designed specifically for training.
For example, I have trouble with some of the HOPO’s where it quickly alternates between two frets. My only option right now to practice that is to find an existing song section which has the HOPO’s and practice that. The problem is that the section is not just made up of HOPO’s. There are other notes before, then the dozen HOPOs which I mess up, then more notes. So I have to keep restarting that section and do the other notes beforehand. It’s the same situation with any type of problem area I’m having.
My dream would be to have an app which would allow you to do certain techniques or patterns over and over. That way I could really concentrate on the repetition to get the pattern down.
This is for the Wii platform. I also have a PC in case there’s a way to hook up the Wii guitar to the PC somehow.
(FYI, HOPOs are where you hammer-on-pull-off so you don’t have to strum the note. You just hit the fret bar)
In Guitar Hero 1, Infected is a great song for practicing 2-note combos. I always used that as a warm up song before trying anything harder.
Couldnt you just make your own track in the music maker, and focus the entire song on what you need to practice? which GH do you have?
By the way, I’m not a fan of Guitar Hero, Rock Band, or any of that, but I was wondering if this thing is helpful.
I have GHIII. It looks like that music maker is in GH:WT only?
I tried to find that VGS Player, but it appears that it’s dead. There are a lot of pages which talk about it, but the page they all link to is gone (http://home.rochester.rr.com/gendreau/vgsplayer/) and it looks like it was for the PS2 version of the game.
Thanks for the suggestions. It looks like I’ll have to just keep working through the songs.
A friend pointed me to Frets On Fire, an open-source PC Guitar Hero-like game. You can play it with a regular keyboard or hook up the actual guitar controller. It allows you to import custom songs, so I’ll just make up a song with the pattern I want to practice.
I have tried frets on fire, its pretty good for some fun. The position of the keys on the keyboard you need to use might make it harder to learn the muscle memory on the actual game, but practice makes perfect. So good luck with your guitar shredding ways Filmore.
