At the end of WWII Hitler was dead, but Emperor Hirohito was still alive. I understand why the allies decided to keep Hirohito around, and this thread isn’t about that, but today there are Neo-Nazis inside Germany. Are there equivalent groups within Japan, groups that want to restore things back to way they were in the 1940s? I have never heard of such groups, but that doesn’t mean they don’t exist.
Uyoku dantai (右翼団体; literally “right wing groups”) are Japanese nationalist right-wing groups.
Wow. That’s exactly what I was looking for. Thanks Shakester.
The uyoku have ties to the yakuzai and also many of the far-right wing politicians.
They drive around in huge sound truck blasting out martial law and try to circle the China, Russian or Korean embassy depending about the issue on hand, and how is violating “sovereign” Japanese territory.
For the most part, they are just annoying and usually harmless, also they’ve killed some politicians who they disagree with as well as movie directors and editors.
How does 石原慎太郎 (Ishihara Shintaro) comport with 右翼団体?Is he sympathetic to their cause?
Ishihara is ultra right wing, and racist to boot, although smart enough to not be publicly seen with the uyoko groups.
