This threadmade me wonder: Aren’t conservatives usually viewed as the “bad guys” in any Western democracy?
For instance, Israel’s Likud, Japan’s LDP, South Korea’s Saenuri Party, Canada’s Conservative Party, Germany’s Christian Democrats, Taiwan’s KMT, the USA’s Republican Party, France’s FN; etc.
(“Bad guys” doesn’t mean people won’t vote for them - obviously, these parties can and do win elections. “Bad guys” means they’re viewed as old-fashioned, traditional, hawkish, firm, predictable, stuck-in-old-ways.)
Those attributes are in many ways the definition of ‘conservative’. Conservatives themselves would self-describe using many of them, and consider it a positive thing.
Conservatives are always bad guys if you define “bad guys” to mean “conservative”.
Also, if you believe in a future that can be made better than the present, and clearly see the past as being definitely worse than the present, then yeah people who want to bring the past back define themselves into a corner.
The CDU and the FN do not belong in the same sentence. This is nonsensical.
Velocity, you might consider getting to know some people personally whose politics differ from yours, and talking to them about how they see the world.
