I recently bought some calcium caplets, since my diet isn’t nearly high enough in calcium. When I opened the bottle, I discovered that these suckers are HUGE. Seriously, horse suppositories are probably not as big. And I’m supposed to take two of them in order to get the right amount. It’s hard to imagine that these are meant to be swallowed.
Now, it’s not unusual for calcium pills to be chewable, since many docs recommend them because they’re easier to absorb than the non-chewable kind. But nowhere on the bottle does it mention that these pills are chewable.
Did I mention I have trouble swallowing any pills larger than baby aspirin? I mean, I can, but I always get nervous and tense up because I’m neurotically afraid of choking. Naturally this makes me even more likely to choke. :smack:
So, are there any vitamin experts or pharmacists who know a lot about pills and who might be able to take an educated guess? What’s the worst that can happen if I chew up a non-chewable calcium pill?
If it’ll help, the label says:
Thanks all. I know this is a longshot, but the Dope’s never steered me wrong yet, so what the heck. Help me and my bones!
