I listen to several talk shows throughout the day, and a good deal of them have, as a sponsor, a company that sells mattresses. Some have this futuristic spage-age gel; some are based on air; some involve some other technology. But they’re all Swedish mattresses!
What’s the deal? Do the Swedes have some monopoly on good sleep?
IANAS, but I used to live pretty close…
You need to ponder two factors here: The length of a Swedish winter night, and the quality (or lack thereof) of Swedish nightlife. That’s two reasons for focusing on sleep quality right there.
Also, consider the fact that mattresses can be used for other activities than sleep. Then consider Scandinavian women - we have a few of them on the board, right ? Wouldn’t you be paying some serious attention to detail if & when ? So obviously a Swedish company producing inferior mattresses would be driven off the market pretty damn quiickly.
Not that I’m considering Scandinavian women any more, but I seem to recall…
OK, halfway seriously: It’s very Scandinavian to be rather picky about what you put in your home. (With our kind of weather, you spend a lot of time indoors.)
And since Sweden has quite the furniture industry (lumber in abundance) and an age-old tradition for producing high-quality steel (for, among other things, springs), I suppose it’s only logical that Swedish mattresses would be high-quality. Yeah, it’s a WAG, sue me.
