Are torpedeos (fireworks) available in the US anymore?

Like the ones Fred Astaire used in “Holiday Inn.”

:smack: aka “torpedoes”

If you mean the things we called Torpedoes back in the early 60’s, silver and about the size of a golf ball, that you threw against a hard surface so they’d explode, I’ve not seen any in 40 years. There were also smaller ones about the size of a giant pea that were called “Cracker Balls”.

All I’ve seen in the last 40 years are the “Snap 'n Pops” that are twisted folds of paper with a little fine gravel and sensitive explosive. They pop, but that’s about it.

I did a Google search for torpedo fireworks and found a .pdf with instructions on making your own “Impact Fireworks” of various types.

I can send the link as I’m not certain it should be posted.

This fireworks company has a product called “snaps” which explode when thrown on the ground. Don’t know how they compare to what Fred Astaire used; probably what **GaryM ** described.

Can you still buy these things? they were little cone-shaped pellets-you lit the tops, and they would brun-producing a snakelike , growing string of ash. As i recall, you could buy them at any joke shop-they were not considered fireworks.

You forgot the part were your dad chases you down for the dark brown stains on his driveway and sidewalk.

I buy several boxes of snakes every fourth of July. I loves me some snakey goodness. And, they’re best in daylight, so there’s something to burn before dark.
