Are we actually having socks pay for membership?

Recently a sock was banned (unnamed for obvious reasons, doesn’t matter anyway) who had “Member” under their name. I’m used the the occasional guest sock but was this someone who actually dropped 15 bucks in order to be a jackass?

Is this a common thing?

Heheheh - no harm to us all if they stupid enough to do that, I suppose.

I suppose socks would suffer from rather woolly thinking.

Darn it! I wanted to say that!

I’d think $15 is actually a rather small “tuition fee” for some people.

Hey, if someone wants to pay to be a knit-wit, it’s their wallet.

Oh, I’m not complaining. Getting money off assholes is the best KIND of money making!

I’m just a bit flabbergasted that someone would actually be willing to put up 15 dollars for a day or two of asshattery and was wondering if there was more to the story and also if it’s happened more than the once since PTP.

Yeah, it’s happened. Someone gets kicked out for inability to play nice with others, and thinks that they were treated unfairly, the mods din’t unnerstan’ 'em, they were clamped on more harshly than anyone else, etc etc. So, they come back under a different name, convinced that it was US rather than THEM (rule #4: always push blame off to someone else) at fault. They are successful for a short time, so they pay up. And, of course, their nasty, aggressive, inability to play nice shines through, sooner or later, and that calls our attention to them and they get banned again.

It’s a good thing, really. When a gzrbl comes back as a paid sock and gets rebanned, he’s a support sock!

Do you get a bunch of bannees demanding a refund?

Oh, and lorene, the word is nitwit. As a knitter, knit-wit is a compliment.

I know. I was trying a play on gotpasswords’ “darn it.”
I should leave the puns to others, I guess.

The sign-on agreement is pretty clear about no refunds. And, generally, the evidence we’ve accumulated against a sock or banee (feminine: banshe) is usually compelling enough that they shut up pretty fast after they’ve asked for a refund.

Also, please note, the cost of sign-up is pretty much trivial for most people… certainly, for the socks signing up and paying multiple times, they must think it’s petty change or they wouldn’t risk it.

Darn it…socks…bwilliant…absolutely bwilliant!

As long as they’re just telling yarns but aren’t stocking anybody, I wouldn’t worry about it.

When a sock is discovered, he/she gets hosed very quickly

I tried to think of something clever to say here, but I’m afraid I’d just put my foot in it.

OK, now I pull out my socks-shooter and make the ultimate sockrifice, as I put this thread in the sockades.
