I finally got my XBOX 360 hooked up, but haven’t bought that game yet, but I bet when and if I do, it’ll be cheap, right?
I said “if” up there because I don’t have that much experience with the box except when I first got it, I went “live” and played some trivia/quiz games.
Anyway, it’s hooked up and 2 weeks ago I rented “Wolfenstein” and tried to play it and pretty much went nowhere fast because I couldn’t work the buttons correctly or shoot fast enough: “Come on, BJ! We gotta blow up that train” and other stuff got yelled at me till I just said STFU! and took the game back.
Okay, not giving up yet, so I rented “Alan Wake” thinking it’s a psychological thriller kinda thing like the description says, but no, and the game started bugging me again, so I turned IT off and took it back.
Y’all know I’m comfortable with WoW, so why can’t I find that kinda game for the XBOX? Am I just not looking for the right thing or just coordinated enough to use the mouse to move and the arrow buttons to choose my weapons?
I bought the XBOX for my grandson when he comes to visit, but they’ve moved and it’s so far away I haven’t seen him in a while.
I don’t have an XBox , but have you linked up to any of the SDMB 360 players? If you have a game they play as well, I *guarantee *they’ll join up and maximize your enjoyment. Don’t play with the filthy masses - there’s plenty of filth right here under your nose!
This seems like a thread about getting 360 game recommendations, if I’m reading it right. Want me to add a [looking for 360 game recommendations] tag at the end?
As for console controls, it’s even odds if you find them clumsy or natural. I do have to say that they grow on you after a while. However, once your reflexes start getting worse, it can be hard getting back in the groove. I mostly try to get my shooter/reflex games on the PC, where it doesn’t feel like I’m “fighting” the controls. On my 360, I usually get “looser” games or, even better, games with pausable gameplay.
My favourite games on the 360 are Dragon Age (pausable D&D gameplay) and Fallout 3 (pausable FPS - “VATS” let’s you pause and aim at a certain body part). Both are also on the PC, so it’s really a matter of preference. However, if you don’t have a gaming PC, getting them on the XBOX 360 is a fully equal alternative.
You might also want to have a look at Red Dead Redemption. It’s a cowboy/shooting game - but you spend as much time herding cattle or just riding around and looking at the beautiful land as you do in firefights. The aiming system is very well done and you can take cover and snipe at your enemies from afar, so you don’t feel hectic or rushed.
Also you should consider going on Xbox Live and downloading demos from games that look good to you. www.gamespot.com has a Top Games section (here for the Xbox 360) which can be a good guide to finding the kind of games you want to try demos of. That way you can try them out without putting down money.
