Are you getting a holiday bonus from your employer? Do tell.

$100 for each full year we’ve worked for the company.

Not quite the same, but a federal employee friend of mine recently received their “bonus” after their annual review - a two hour time off reward. I advised him to take it in 15 minute increments to really enjoy it.

I’m pretty sure we’re not. I’m holding out a faint hope since we’ve had a better than usual year but, since we were scraping by previous years, I don’t know that a “better than usual” one will…

…ok, literally as I was typing this I got called into the owner’s office where he gave me a check for $4,700 and a 5% raise and 5% profit sharing. Yowsers.

Actually got an increase from a generous previous amount. Because the owner made an extra 1.5 mil gross on a deal. He can write off the extra he gives us this year. At least I’m ahead by a bit.

Oh, grow up everyone.

You do a certain amount of work for your employer. They pay you a certain amount of money, obviously less than you help them earn (or they wouldn’t keep you), but enough to prevent you from quiting.

Some employers give it to you in equal installments spread throughout the year. Other employers hold a certain amount back, in order to give it to you at the holiday time to make you think they care about you. But all that really matters is, how much do you work during the year, and how much do you take home during the year? The rest is just psychology.

Not really. Many base it upon how well the company did that year. They’re not saying “we’ll give her $60k but only pay her $58k and save the other $2k until Christmas”. In fact, I’ve never worked somewhere with a consistent bonus unless it was some token sum. It’s always been pinned to company performance for the year.

I don’t get a holiday bonus per se but I do get a performance bonus at the end of November (based on individual performance, not my employer’s financial performance). We also get 2.5 weeks of time off (from before Christmas until after New Year’s) which doesn’t count against our accrued annual leave. This year was particularly tough but ultimately successful, so we got a full five weeks off.

My previous employer gave the option of taking one’s annual salary either in 12 monthly parts, or in 13 parts with a double salary in November. People referred to that as a bonus even though it really amounts to an interest-free loan to the employer. :dubious:

No, but our ESPP program allows us to put 10% of our salary toward purchasing shares at a discount (I did the maximum amount). Our most recent purchase was at $18/share. The stock hit $107 just in time for Christmas.

68 posts in and I’m not seeing a whole lot of complaining. The overwhelming majority of those in this thread who are not receiving bonuses are simply reporting it, not laying on the floor, turning on the waterworks and pounding the carpeting.

You need to re-read the thread with your ignorant remark in mind.
mmm

I think that’s normal for a site-wide closure. I know it is at our university, and we typically have to use 3 days of PTO over winter break. We only need to use two this year, so that’s nice.

We don’t get bonuses (I’ve yet to work anywhere that offered one) but my coworkers who work today get to go home at noon and still be paid until 4:30 which is nice. I’m taking the whole day off and don’t really mind missing out on that perk.

My bonus was on my keyboard this morning. (I’m in the office today for the party.) Only $300 net, but better than nothing, and we’re a non-profit.

We get a profit sharing check. It’s always given at the Christmas Holiday party so it kind of feels like a Christmas bonus. Mine was about $2000 after taxes.

I think the thrust of his comment was more that Christmas bonuses are a mercenary and calculated ploy to gain your gratitude by holding back part of your pay until December and presenting it as a “gift” and we’re all immature suckers for falling for it.

Ah. OK.

Never mind.
mmm

My daughter works for a dog daycare and she got 200 dollars as her bonus. They don’t work or get paid for the holiday week so it’s like she got an almost paid vacation. Where she racked up was individual tips and gifts from dog parents. Lots of gift cards and $20s and a few small gifts of food and ornaments. With 40-50 dogs in her care alone that really adds up.

How about a cruise. For everyone.
Don’t know if it includes spouse/SO &/or kids, though.

Some time ago, I ran a plant with about 25 people. One Christmas, because I was getting so tired of people stealing our middle sized adjustable wrenches, I gave everyone in the place one for their very own, and a padlock for every mechanic’s tool box and cage.

We never got bonuses, but we got turkeys at Thanksgiving and had a big blowout summer picnic for everyone and their families.

I got a “Christmas bonus” yesterday when I checked my bank account to find that my regular bi-weekly pay cheque hadn’t been deposited. This is a good thing because the deposits were *supposed *to have stopped when I retired three months ago. (I’m one of the Canadian federal employees affected by the current pay system problems.)

As public servants, we never got a bonus, although the managers in my branch usually gave out small “thank you” Timmy’s or similar gift cards from their own pockets. I did get a lot of vacation time due to seniority, so would usually take 3 weeks over Christmas and New Years - this was the slow time in my division, anyway. Our branch social club put on great holiday parties, though, with good door prizes - I won a 47" flatscreen TV, an iPad, and a camera at the last three.

" Timmy’s"??

I think that is Canadian for Tim Horton’s coffee and donuts shops.
