Are you getting a holiday bonus from your employer? Do tell.

Canucks call Tim Horton “Timmys”, I think.

Right. A near-ubiquitous part of modern Canadian life.

During a banner year before the economic collapse, I had a boss who told everyone in December that, over Valentine’s Day weekend, we were all going on a three day trip to Vegas. Airfare & lodging for us and our spouse/SO (no kids). Mind you, we had considerably less than 800 employees.

I’m eligible for a quarterly bonus right now. I think that the next one pays out in January. So that’s sort of like a Christmas bonus, I guess.

In years past, from a few different employers, I’ve gotten a free turkey or ham, a fleece jacket with company logo, a company-provided luncheon on the clock, and a $100 AmEx gift card.
This year, Christmas Day was a scheduled work day*… but we got to leave work 6hrs early. 6hrs of pay for time I wasn’t at work is a bonus, so I won’t complain.

  • I am employed and paid by a large American corporation, but our customer is a GCC-nation gov’t agency, and per our contract we fall under the host nation’s labor laws. You would be correct to assume the customer doesn’t feel the same way about Christmas as we do.

No bonus, but we get a week off with pay.
