I imagine we won’t have a lot of takeout; we both cook, and we’re looking at this as an opportunity to eat down the freezer and pantry, I suppose.
But we don’t have everything, especially fresh produce, for holing up for more than about 2 weeks, so I imagine we’ll have to do some grocery pickup/delivery operations in the next week or two.
We got door dash today for the kids, who were jonesing for Chinese food. We’re also doing either grocery delivery or online ordering, mostly because my mom is moving to the area Tuesday from out of state (she no longer owns the house she’s living in). She’s a transplant patient and I’m trying to avoid any contact with anyone outside my immediate family until she’s safely ensconced and isolated within her shiny new condo.
One of our local restaurants did a poll to see if people would be interested in take out. The results were quite positive, but no further word. We want them to survive. If they offer it, we will go once or twice a week. We have at least 4 more weeks of lockdown.
They are also offering gift certificates, so we might do that to support them.
We normally don’t get food delivered, and probably won’t start, as most of the places that would deliver aren’t that interesting. Might try something if I get bored enough. We have a 2 week break at Christmas, and that’s the longest I’ve ever had for cooking lunch, our main meal, every day. And even then we would normally go out once or twice. So this will be the longest time we’ve ever had to go without restaurants or company canteen since, well, ever.
We have ordered coffee beans and will order specialty cheese online. As the store is a 5 minute walk away, we are quite lucky.
We have half a dozen locally owned restaurants practically in our backyard and they’re all offering curbside pickup. We’re going to do a pickup once a week for as long as they’re offering it in order to help them get by. Today is both my husband’s and son’s birthday, so we’re picking up a special dinner from the local pub. Next week it’ll probably be the other local pub :D. I’m still going to the grocery store, but limiting it to one visit per week. If we have to self-isolate, we’re set for 30 days.
