Where have you eaten out since the lockdown?

So outside of home cooking and grocery/convenience stores, where have you eaten since your area got stay-at-home orders? And how often?
–Local places The Spar and It’s Greek to Me
–Subway, because I got gifted a card there for Christmas
And that’s it. Not just because a lot of places are closed, but a lot of places I usually go to have huge portions that are really awkward to eat on the go.

I hope this isn’t threadshitting, but: none. You know the cliché about how you’d have to pay me to eat there? Because, well, yeah; that.

How come? Don’t think it’s safe, or other reason?

We’ve mostly ordered out from local places. Overall we’ve eaten at home a lot more than usual, which isn’t a bad thing.

We’ve gotten Portillo’s hot dogs drive-through a couple of times. Otherwise, nothing.

We’ve ordered pizza from a local place twice.

None, since it is against the rules. However, my boss did pay for some BBQ for us to pick up and eat at home.

No place. A. There is no place to dine out in NY state; B. The Ukulele Lady, a notorious freaker-outer, is freaked out about touching containers from takeout places.

Everything has been home-cooked. And I am DYING for some General Tso’s chicken from Szechuan Delight, or a sausage and onion pizza from Nonna Rosa, or a couple of souvlaki from Mr. Felafel. Hell, even a cheeseburger with everything from Five Guys.

Like I read somewhere on the internets, “You know what would taste really good right about now?..some food cooked by somebody else.”

I haven’t eaten food that I didn’t prepare in over 4 weeks now.

We’ve ordered out twice in the past month, once from our local Indian place and once from a Peruvian chicken shop down the road. We might order out next week some time, trying to give some love to local restaurants.

We’ve been maintaining our weekly Wednesday taco night with carry-out from the strip mall taco joint. We had pizza delivered once from a local independent place. That’s about it.

Olive Garden the day the quarantine began, Dominos last week after my homemade pizza slid off the pan and landed upside down on the oven door and yesterday a sandwich from Jersey Mikes.

All the places around here closed or went to takeout weeks ago. And I’m fairly certain they’re currently only allowed to do takeout.

I’ve gotten takeout from:

Subway, I know the family that runs it and they did a great job keeping it clean even before the quarantine. They are struggling now with so much less business.

An Italian place, love their pesto tortellini and homemade bread.

A BBQ place.

We haven’t eaten food from a restaurant since early February (dine-in, local Thai place). Initially, it was just because we just didn’t think about it, but then the shut-down happened, and since then we’ve limited anything that comes into our house to stuff we can let set for a few hours or sanitize.

But now tonight, we decided to order from a local pizza place. Mainly because our county has maintained low numbers of cases and deaths…but they’re inching up. So we figured, it’s not much of a problem here right now, and we’re craving something that doesn’t involve cooking with our own groceries, so we’re taking the plunge. Plus, it’s owned and operated by a husband and wife, and they’ve been promoting how careful they are with preparation/delivery/etc. And we don’t want to see them close down because of all of this, so we’re doing our part.

UK checking in: Nowhere. We’re allowed to collect takeaway food or have it delivered, but we have done neither. Partly because it makes you fat (the longstanding reason), and partly because it’s food that has been prepared and handled by people you don’t know, in the parts of premises that you don’t know, and, well - that would detract from the enjoyment.

(As it happens, internal police guidelines on how they will react to you leaving your home were made public today for the first time [here, for completeness]). Leaving your home to buy food is permitted, and “Food could include hot food from takeaways.” Not sure why they specify hot.)

Mom and I were in week 3 of 8-weeks-of-fish-fries when Ohio shut down. Two of the 5 weeks we made pancakes on Friday but the other 3 weeks we did fish fry from local restaurants. I barely enjoy fish fry at all (I just do it to humor mom) but fish and french fries in a styrofoam container is just blech.

I got McDonald’s twice, pizza twice, BK once and one day when I was walking the dogs I saw/smelled like 4 different people outside grilling so I went home and ordered a burger from a local place for pickup.

So, 1-2 times a week for me, same as usual, and nothing too exciting.

Timely thread. Was just thinking of asking the same question.

We’ve not eaten anything we didn’t make at home for about 6 weeks now. Only food that comes into the house is delivered by Amazon or Instacart and the like. It gets wipe sanitized before getting stored in the fridge or pantry. That said, I got an email from Jimmy Johns sub place and I’d never consider eating there normally, but I would kill for a sub right now. Murder in cold blood and step around their body at an acceptable social distance.

Won’t happen though. Much as we would love to support the local eateries, we just can’t bring ourselves to order prepared food without knowing it will be properly handled.

The local Thai restaurant that I regularly frequent opened up a drive-through (from a previous restaurant there). Order on the phone and pick it up. The mexican restaurant has call in and the cars line up and they bring it out. Subway (they removed the tables). And a couple of fast food drive-throughs.

We got pizza from a local joint once, from Domino’s once, fried chicken and sides from a local deli once, and Chinese the other night. My husband has hit the drive-thru at McD’s for breakfast burritos a couple of times. There are a couple of things I’d like from my favorite Mexican place, but so far I haven’t been motivated enough to go there. I don’t mind cooking at home. I’m saving money and shedding some poundage, so that’s good.
