From what you said earlier, it gives you the 3rd DLC included. Why pay $10 more for $7 DLC? Or are there other goodies to make it worth while?
Hmmmm, there is the soundtrack and some wallpaper. You’re right. You’re better off getting the regular digital version and buying the DLC. Argh!
Ok, just making sure I wasn’t missing something there.
The dial better go up to 11, is all I’m saying.
The regular limited collector’s edition is selling in Singapore for SGD 79. The Steam pre-order is 55 USD - which means it is in the realm of 75 to 80. I don’t see why I am paying more when the regular edition comes with a manual and perhaps other stuff. We should see.
What mean “spoony”?
Is that “snarky”?
Adjective : spoony (comparative spoonier, superlative spooniest)
- Enamored in a silly or sentimental way.
- Feebly sentimental; gushy.
(it’s a reference to the English translation of one of the NES Final Fantasy games by Ted Woolsey. It was not a bad translation, mind you. Just full of… weirdness. And euphemisms, such as the now famous “you spoony bard !”)
ETA : oh, and of course it stuck in gamer jargon because… bards are useless. The party’s fighters hack people in two. The mage burns people alive. The cleric heals and calls down the wrath of god. The thief slits their throats. The bard sings at Evil. Sometimes plays a *mean *lute, too.
Spoony was on odd translation choice in the English version of FFIV. One character called another something like “you spoony bard”. It’s become a bit of a meme. I’m not sure what the line was supposed to mean, but it was something negative.
Edit: ah beaten to it. Though it was one of the SNES games not NES. I thought it might have been Woolsey but the wikipedia page didn’t name the translator.
Thanks for the explanations.
I was thinking of this Bard: The Bard's Tale (2004 video game) - Wikipedia
Well I just got the new PC Gamer mag and it has a rave review of Dragon Age.
One notable thing (relating to a few posts ago) it mentions that even when the Origins converge into the main storyline your race/background still have a major impact on the story. I guess we’ll have to see if that’s really true or if it’s as superficial as some are fearing.
The only complaint they had was that its difficult even on the easy setting. I’m not too worried about that though I’m not adverse to a little challenge and if it’s actually broken (the review stated you have to turn it to easy to get through the Dwarf Rogue beginning) I’m sure it will be patched a bit.
the review verdict: A Truly astonishing game vast, vivid, and microscopically detailed. Dragon Age is the RPG of the Decade. 94%
Also keep in mind this is the UK version of PC Gamer which tends to give slightly lower scores then the US version.
What the? The Us PC Gamer came in a week ago and no DA review to be seen. But everyone and their grandma in Europe is getting magazine and website reviews for the game.
Well, at least it’s yet another positive review.
Difficult? Challenging? Cool! However RPG tends to become easier towards the end. Knights of the Old Republic (both 1 and 2), for example.
I’m sure when you have the actual game three days before me you’ll be consoled.

Note to self: Send screenies of DA upon release to the following people…
I thought PCG was supposed to come out on the 22nd? I’ll look for it on Monday on my way to work. I used to prefer PCZ but PCG has improved a lot.
I’m playing Aion now and Borderlands comes out on the 23rd. Hopefully they’ll take my mind off the long wait until the 6th.
Usually if you have a subscription it comes out a good 7-10 days earlier than the newsstands.
I’m really going through a gaming nirvana right now. It’s been 20 years since I’ve been so excited about so many upcoming games. Dragon Age, Starcraft II, Mass Effect II, Star Wars: The Old Republic are all games I’ve been following minute by minute. It’s like being a kid again only instead of running home every day to see if the latest gaming mag have hit my door I’m checking the net every day for ANY news about any of these games. It’s strange really it’s been so long since so many games I’m interested in have come along. Obviously there have been individual games (like Spore) which I followed but not daily and not so many all at once. It’s like someone decided to make my wish list of games. Even old ones like Majesty which I didn’t think would have a sequel at all have been released.
And if you saw a thread a posted a few weeks ago I recently installed tons of old and new games on my shiny new harddrive (I’m up to 130 games on it if you count expansion packs). So I’ve been dabbling in new loves and old classics like crazy. My lovely wife has saved up all year and gave me £500 to blow on any computer parts I wanted (tomorrow is my Birthday). Now I have a new monitor and case coming in the mail and I have about £100 left. I’ll probably save that until I can get Windows 7 (it’s going to kill me to have to reinstall all those games).
Frankly I’ll be amazed if she doesn’t leave me in the next 6 months. I hope for my marriage’s sake some of these release dates get pushed back.
I’m with you. This has been a very slow year but the games on the horizon more than make up for it. The game I’m really waiting for is Starcraft II but DA:O and the Star Trek/Wars MMOGs promise to suck months, if not years, from my life.
Then there are lesser titles I’m looking forward to like Alpha Protocol and Borderlands which should help fill the gaps.
Hey guys the flash based tactical RPG game based on Dragon Age is up! www.dragonagejourneys.com
Apparently you can unlock items that will carry over to the actual game.
I’d just like to say it’s not a bad little flash game. I’ve played it for a couple of hours and it’s a decent time waster.
Strangely I couldn’t get it to come up at first. Not even reloading made it come up. Finally I navigated away and back and then it worked.
