Are You Nostalgic For the 1970's?

I like disco music-I just picked up a good disc of the music of the period-and realized how much I like it.
As for leisure suits, bell bottom pants, Studio 54-not sure. Is it one of your favorite decades, or not?
What did yo most dislike about it?

No. I was born in 1980. The 70s aesthetic is, to me, the most repellant ever invented. The colors are muddy and ugly, the cuts are unflattering, the interiors are dark. Also, the music reflected a messed up ethos; I mean, the Pina Colada song? Seriously?

I was born in 1961. I should, therefore, has some affection for the 70s. I don’t. Bad music (especially, IMO, disco), bad fashion, bad home decor. Also, I think I didn’t have sex until 1980, (maybe late 1979, I’m not sure) so I was pissed off the last few years of the decade.

Born in 1969, and the 70’s was a fun time to be a kid. You had Evel Knievel, KISS, Star Wars. Glad I wasn’t paying for gas though (Not that I’m glad now).

Best time of my life. Well, some of the best times. Things were pretty good for me, and I was young, but old enough.

I was born in 1985. There was some fucking amazing music being produced during the 70s; it was an era that will stand out in music history.

It’s the decade I grew up in (8-18), so I get nostalgic about it, sure.

I can’t think of much that was better then than it is now, except the music (other than disco) and maybe the abundance of cheap giggly pot. Concerts were cheap.

The drinking age was 18, which, in a country of suburbs, seems insane now. Of course we got an early start at 16 when we had a pal who worked at the liquor store. Hard to believe me and my friends all lived through it.

It was the last days of people being able to smoke just about anywhere. An office would be intolerably smelly to someone who beamed back to there from today.

Given the right conditions a car could turn to a rust bucket in a few years. Just jiggle the bodywork and watch the flakes fall out.

Up to about 1973, then not so much.

It was the era of brown, lime-green, and orange. I had to wear clothes in those colours. I do not miss it.

That was the decade of my first marriage. which was not great.

Born in '58 and much more nostalgic for the ‘60s. I grew up in a smallish, New England town when the world was still in black and white. I’m happy that much of my childhood was similar to that of my parents’.

The '70s are where about more grown up things–a job, high school, college.

1967 was a much better time for me than 1977.

I was born in 1962. I love the late 70s. The period of about 1977 - 1983 was very influential on my musical tastes. It includes disco but also new wave.

The theory is that the music that was around when you were 18 is what sticks with you, and that’s true in my case – that was the year 1980.

You bet your ass I’m nostalgic for the 1970s. I’m just not surrounded by enough second-hand smoke nowadays.

You know what they say: “If you can remember the 70’s, you weren’t there.”

Fuck, yeah. “It was the Seventies” is a cliched catch-all excuse and explanation, but kids, you had to be there. It was…um…well, simply put, it was the Seventies. You simply had to ignore men’s fashion (I was pioneering an open flannel shirt over a colored T-shirt with worn jeans and paratrooper boots) and stay high enough that Disco sounded okay. Which, it turns out, much of it really did.

I think that’s the 60s. For the 70’s it’s “If you can remember the 70s, you’ll wish you weren’t there.”

Good God no. I was born in 77, and I’ve always considered it fortunate that I only have a couple of memories of the 70s at all.

I was born in '68 and yeah, if I could go back in time, the 70s would be when. I loved everything about it (except for its lack of social conscience – minorities, women and the GLBTQ had it rough)… the clothes, the colors, the interior design, the music and oh man, the movies were the best they’ll ever be! Sure, too much smoke and pollution, but the rest was pure gold. As VH-1 was fond of saying for a long time there; I LOVE THE 70S!!

Yes, as a kid growing up songs imprint themselves indelibly. My adult years in the 80s was full of laud, slurring music videos. Seemed barbaric compared with Bacarach, Manilow, Billy Joel and the Beegees.

The 80s was like the 70s with only Elton John, Rod Stewart, and Beatles plus all their bad copycats.

Yes. I enjoyed them - maybe I like them more in retrospect than I did at the time. It was a funny period when people were into exploring themselves, and conspicuous consumption was totally out of fashion. Since 1980 or so, being rich and materialistic has been considered cool.
