Are you of the "Working Class?"

I believe the Democratic Party has defined anyone making under $40K/year to be a member of the “working class.” But I could be wrong…

As the other Americans, I’ve never really thought about “class”. My mother was a schoolteacher until we kids started coming. My father started as a construction foreman and worked his way up to national VP of planning, construction and maintainence of a major retail chain. My maternal grandfather was a Detroit cop and my maternal grandmother was a schoolteacher. My paternal grandfather owned several religious goods stores and my maternal grandmother was a housewife. My sibs and I were educated at Catholic schools. We lived in big old homes but weren’t dressed in the hottest clothes. We didn’t play organized sports or take private music lessons. As a single adult, I work as a credit manager. I own my own home, but it’s small and in a neighborhood of truckdrivers and clerical workers. I’d consider myself lower middle class, but it’s not because of what my parents or grandparents did.

What would I be considered in the UK?
