Are you OK with porn stars as neighbors, friends, teachers & babysitters?

They could come in handy. Say you had mislaid your hammer. You could use the porn star’s rock hard penis to drive nails.

Or if your vacuum cleaner was on the fritz…

Nah - just inner-city. Since the invention of crack you can get some real bargains (and some diseases they haven’t named yet) if you know where to look.

wish someone would bump the MikeSouth thread mentioned here to before maybe it’ll be me; but another thread that is…

it’s not the job, so much as the behavior as a neighbor, keep it peaceful and myob.

Not my babysitter, and some people have poor boundaries, pornists pushing the boundaries would exclude them from caretaking positions of the vulnerable, including animals.

Consent?

This.

Some are most definitely my neighbors in this apt complex, and every year brings a fresh group. They’re nice enough people, but the booze and drugs, the relationship drama, the fear and desperation, are good things to avoid.

Yes

Probably wouldn’t be an issue anyway. Most porn stars don’t use their real names for their performances. So you might not realize that the Michelle Chapman you see at PTA meetings (she’s married and has two children) is also making x-rated movies under the name Tori Black.

I have a friend who was a foster care caseworker in the pre-internet days, and one thing she’s never gotten over was how much those kids knew about drug paraphernalia, sex toys…and pornography. They would talk about porno actors the way other kids talk about “regular” actors. :frowning:

As for living next door to a fundie, I’m Christian myself, and I wouldn’t want a neighbor like the one you describe either. Never had children, but parents draw the line regarding boundaries, and if I had a neighbor who kept inviting me to church, told me I belonged to the “wrong” religion, etc. I’d tell them to MYOB. I do have some Mormon friends who, when they lived here, would occasionally say, “If you ever decide to switch churches, you are welcome at ours any time” and I would reply in kind, WRT my Episcopalian congregation.

And as for living near or working with them? Who knows - maybe I have and don’t know it. Like other posters have said, it’s a safe bet that people who have done commercial porn have, or had, serious problems with drugs, unresolved abuse issues, etc.

One of my friends is a gay porn actor. He’s very open about what he does, almost embarrassingly so.

I don’t have any issues with his profession, but I will say that, he fashions himself to be much smarter than he is, and has the habit of making pseudo-intellectual posts about politics, religion, etc. He’ll get a lot of support, comments, likes, etc., regardless of how inane his statements are, all because those people believe that, by agreeing with him, they have a chance to get in his pants.

I have no problems with porn stars, ex or current. Its a job and I’m not prudish. Hell, I’d probably prefer to have a porn star teach my kids about sex

You’d think it would simplify the bejesus out of Sex Ed, though…

If we’re not going to let people change to a new career based on what their previous job was? Congratulations! You’ve reinvented the caste system!

I’ve known plenty of damaged people, and none of them have done porn. One of the college professors my parents hung out with when I was growing up put himself through college working as a prostitute, and he turned out fine. No, I’m not conflating porn with prostitution, but it sounds like a lot of people are.

I think Newton had something to say about that… or Nietzsche… one of those guys.

Oh, I live in one of those conservative Midwestern sh*tholes, and I absolutely don’t give a monkey’s so long as it was just the porn the person did. I’m not going to fuss about drug use in someone’s past either as long as it is clearly that: in the past. But I’m probably something of an exception in my town of 16,400 souls; there are conservative parents here who would be horrified at the notion of a former porn actress teaching their kids in school. Not really sure what the reaction would be if it were a guy, but probably more accepting unless it was gay porn. That might raise a few eyebrows and hackles, unfair as that extra level of discrimination is.

Porn is presumably all between consenting adults. In reality, I’m sure that a non-zero percentage are coerced… but then they wouldn’t like it, would they?

^^This^^, though it would be more of an issue for someone teaching in a high school teacher than an elementary school.

It’s supposed to have scales?? Mine has feathers. Does that make me more evolved?

After my Brother divorced, he took up with a woman in porn.

My Mother refused to see that woman, receive her at her table for the Holidays, or even to meet her.

So, that.

The thought of seeing my wife and her friends hanging around a former porn star is unfathomable. Of course, they rarely drink or swear. Unless she was now a converted Christian, but that would still be a stretch.

I can picture my neighbor as a porn star.

**In the morning I realize I’ve run out of sugar, and I knock on my neighbors door, empty sugar bowl in hand. Her door opens, an a vision of flesh, Spandex and stiletto heels appears before me.

“Yes?”, she asked in sultry voice. **

Well, it goes on from there.

Oh, are you there to fix the cable in return for borrowing the sugar?

“Normal” porn stars? Maybe. Japanese porn stars? Probably not. German porn stars? No fucking way!
