Shit, not to junior mod or anything, but let me proceed to junior mod…
If it were me making the decisions, I would have banned TURDUCKENFUCKERjust because of that last OP.
People forget about the board’s purpose a lot. “Fighting ignorance” ringing a bell for anyone? To jump in and misrepresent a piece of news deliberately in order to whip up a shitstorm is hardly fighting ignorance. It’s encouraging it. While trolling to boot.
Meanwhile, we’re all here in this thread whipping up more controversy over the banning. This is feeding the TURDUCKENFUCKER more than the usual recreational outrage he gets from his trollbait - to the point where he’s probably undergone mitosis several times and now the world has eight or 16 TURDUCKENFUCKERS to contend with.
THespos, even though your miss-spelling of his username is cracking me up (seriously, say it out loud softly to yourself and try not to laugh) isn’t it somewhat like kicking a man when he’s down?
but it is still making me laugh!
I’ll go with “misunderstood genius.” I dunno, I guess I just “got” his sense of humor. He was confrontational all right, but in a way that was so outrageously over-the-top that I never saw it as mean-spirited. And for every tirade there was an awesome, levelheaded yet passionate post about music or video games. Hell, he turned me on to Shadow Hearts. I think the board is poorer without him.
No, just saying it was a pattern with him-post some outrageously stupid question, then get offended when people say it’s outrageously stupid.
Or his total, foaming at the mouth, Pit threads about nothing in particular, getting pissed at the drop of a hat, starting said Pit threads and never returning, etc.
Basically, the textbook definition of Being a Jerk.
The rules of the board. Okay, let’s pretend he didn’t post such over-the-top threads. He still would repeatedly, despite multiple warnings, insult and flip out on people outside of the Pit. Dude had how many warnings?
Look, Sarahfeena, I do like you as a poster. But I think you’re dead wrong here.
I read that as licking a man when he’s down and I went how does that have anything to do with this thread?
[pet peeve/nitpick] Good riddance[/pp/np]
the thing with people like “long named poster” is that there will be another one soon, with other quirks and outrageous remarks, so he won’t be missed for long.
I see Sarahfeena’s point though. The guy went too far, but we don’t want to lose all the provocative people, even if they do spout off on the strangest stuff.
I too will miss him. I (almost) never found him trollish or jerky; I just mostly found his over-the-top outrage funny. The board might be less trolly without him, but I am almost certain it will be more boring, and we’re walking a fine line there already. Which is not to say we should keep offensive people around for their entertainment value, but I think a whole thread of “me too” and a whole forum of “So, I just had a sandwich. And you?” is awfully tedious.
Late as hell with a response to this, but they have blocked the Dope at work, so I have to miss all the action till I get home…so there you go…
I have to respond to this. Those who are so thrilled to see him banned actually think they are the geniuses that have uncovered a clever troll, huh? And those that are dissapointed to see him go are alll morons that have been wooshed? Is that it? Please.
That kid was obvious with his ‘trollish’ behavior. He knew that certain things he said would stir folks up, and he said it anyways. It does not matter that *if it was because of or inspite of * the fact that it would get folks cackles all up. That is irrelevant. What mattered was that it was fun, interesting, and it invoked some really good conversations.
See, the ones that could accept him for who he was, and his contributions to the board…those folks often took the fodder of his OP and ran with it. They elevated the conversation, most times, and often TLDR never even returned.
So yeah…whether or not his outrageous opinions were genuine, his outrageous opinions will be missed by me. And in the interest of full disclosure, I probably agreed with more of the things that he said than anyone would ever care to admit.
Indeed several interesting debates on economics and personal finance broke out due to his “Trollish” ops.
On the other hand, his final straw thread was really nasty and I would be embarrassed on behalf of the board if it had continued and been pointed out to the grieving family. I don’t know about trollish but it was extremely jerkish.
Thank you, Nzinga, for that succinct and well put summation.
long named poster never bothered me–he did write inflammatory stuff (often), but sometimes that did stimulate discussion. So hard to find a good troll these days: one who’s intelligent to know when to stir the outrage and when to do performance “art”.
