Oh wow, I remember LimeWire way back in the day. I used that, and BearShare, and of course Napster. So long ago.
Apparently LimeWire was shut down in 2010 after losing a lawsuit. The new company with the name LimeWire has no affiliation with the old one, and it sells music NFTs. (Ugh.)
I should have said "legal’. You’re right, legit might be overselling it.
They did sell NFTs when they first came back, but I’m not sure they still are. (Are NFTs even still a thing?) Their website now says nothing about NFTs and is all about secure file sharing.
They have a link on that page to OpenSea where they sell them to suckers.
As per their token home page, they do file sharing, but it’s now “AI-powered” and the LimeWire token is “the backbone of its file sharing and decentralized computing products”.
The file sharing is a cover for their crypto scheme. It’s as sketchy as anything you’ll see. It’s no wonder they wanted to buy the Fyre Festival brand. It’s all just a cover.
