Are you taller than your gender equal parent?

I couldn’t think of the appropriate term. Maybe there isn’t one.

If you’re male, are you shorter or taller than your father? If you’re female, are you shorter or taller than your mother?

Poll coming.

Male, significantly (roughly 15 centimetres) taller than my father. My mother is, however, significantly taller than the average woman. I would be quite interested to know whether other responding men who are taller than their fathers likewise have tall mothers.

That’s probably the usual case but in my situation, I’m 2 inches taller than my dad, who is about average heightwise and a foot taller than my mother who is quite short (only 5’ tall).

I’m a woman and I’m the exact height of my mother. Er…before she died obviously.

Male about 3" taller than my father. Mom is shorter than average but there are tall people on her side.

A tiny weeny little bit taller than my mother, about half an inch / 1cm. Enough that our recorded heights are different, but little enough that most people will think it’s the shoes. The Bros have about one inch on Dad (1’78m to his 1’75).

I’m 6’5", my wife is 5’7" or so. Our son is about a half inch taller than I am, and our daughter is an inch or so taller than my wife.

Curiously, while our son resembles me physically, and our daughter is very much the image of her mother, the personalities are swapped: our son is much like his mother, our daughter very much like me.

I’m a woman, and I’m taller than both of my parents. And I’m only 5’5" (1.65 m).

About four inches taller. When I was on the HS baseball team, I think every kid could already wear his dad’s baseball spikes by freshman year…

Both of my parents are below “average” height by an inch or more, and I am four inches shorter than my mother (or was, before she started shrinking). In fact, I am the shortest woman in my extended family over the age of 10.

An inch or two taller than my dad. Mom isn’t unusually tall, but her mother was what they called “a good strong woman,” tall and muscular. This may explain why I am also more broad-shouldered and muscular than my dad. When I graduated high school he wanted to give me his jacket from his days as a Navy pilot (like this one, minus the patches and the smirking dickweed), but alas, it was too small for me.

I’m male and a bit taller than my father… now. That’s only because he’s 75 and shrinking. For most of my adult life, he was taller than me. I answered “I’m male and shorter than my father” to reflect this.

At 6’1" and 240 pounds, I’m the smallest adult male in both my family and my wife’s family. Aside from dad (who until recently was less than an inch taller than me) it’s not even close.

I’m the shortest. Well, my mom has been shrinking a bit since her mid-60s, so we might be the same. My siblings are both taller than me. They are in between my mom and dad in height.

Much much shorter than my father. Totally his fault for marrying a short woman from a tiny family. I’m 5-9 he was about 6-4. My maternal grandfather was 5-1 and there were quite a few of them on that side of the family that never hit 5 feet.

I wound up shorter than both my parents. I’m a 5’3" woman and my mother was 5’5". My dad topped out at 5’10", I think. Incidentally, my sister grew taller than my mom was, and my brother is taller than my father.

I used to be 6’1". My father was 5’10", my mother 5’5". My wife was 5’5" and my sons are both 6’2"; my daughter 5’6".

I know one family where the mother was under 5’ and the father about 5’6". They had one daughter who grew to 6’3" and married a man of the same height. They had one daughter who was 5’6". There were other reasons to think the woman had a glandular malfunction (male sounding voice, for example–you should have heard her stories about trying to order bras over the phone).

Mom 5’2"

Me & Brother 5’8"

Dad 6’

This thread is offensively cis-centric, but I’ll take it anyway.

Taller by at lest an inch or two. Male.

Both of my parents are tall – my father is 6’ 4", my mother is 5’ 9". I’m a male; I topped out just taller than my mother, at 5’ 10.5". I have one sibling, a sister, who is just a hair shorter than me.

When I was a boy, I was usually among the shortest in my grade, though everyone would tell me, “don’t worry, you’ll wind up even taller than your dad”. They were, of course, mistaken – the issue is that I wound up with recessive genes for my build. I’m built like my maternal grandmother: long torso, and relatively short arms and legs (I only have a 31" inseam, which is more typical for men who are several inches shorter than me).

As one of my maternal aunts (who has the same build as Grandma and me) once said: “we’re built like Yoda.”

Male here my Father is kind of short like 5’7.5’’ to maybe 5’8’’, I’m 5’9’’. Both of my grandfathers were 6 footers but they were rather lanky and my Father and I are more of the muscular balls of muscle types. My wife is fairly tall for a female, she’s 5’7’’ and my son always seems to be much larger than kids that are older than him even by a few years both in height and a pretty solid frame, I have a feeling he will be a big man that will be able to throw me around like a rag doll.
