Arizona Republicans to deny birth certificates to "anchor babies"!

This post is nearly completely nonsense. I suppose it could have been more nonsensical if it had been written in crayon with backwards letters, but not much.

Obviously citizenship by birth is the current law, and obviously it derives from the Constitution. Someone seeking to change the law is not simply trying to enforce current law, but to make new law. Up until that point, you were fine. Then your post, instead of continuing down whatever track logic might lead you, took a sharp left turn towards Crazytown.

A person can observe, without recourse to racism, that the effects of illegal immigration, combined with the consequences of birthright citizenship, have changed dramatically since the adoption of the Fourteenth Amendment. Someone could argue that filling up a country with new citizens quickly made sense in the late nineteenth century, with manifest destiny pushing us to conquer the West and settle the plains. This is not a racist sentiment, nor is it racist to say that today, we have much less need to expand or conquer anything. In 1867, we were not remotely a world power; today, we are; our wealth and standard of living attracts many immigrants that simply didn’t exist 140 years ago.

None of these are racist observations. All of them can be used to support the argument that the law should change.

Except that if you talk to actual legal Mexican immigrants, they are about 99.99% against illegal immigration. So, according to you, they are racist against their own race?

“Mexican” isn’t a race, by the way, it’s a nationality. A Mexican or Hispanic might have black, white, native American, or a mix of ethnicities. I’ve never come across a Mexican/Hispanic with Asian heritage, but it could happen.

I guess I have my answer to why anti-Mexican racism is condoned by the staff of this board.

That’s not right, at least in California. You only need to show proof of legal residency when acquiring the drivers license. The legal residency can expire before the drivers license does. So a drivers license cannot prove current residency status.

Alberto Fujimori was the frakkin’ President of Peru. Does he count?

Let’s reword that slightly to make the issue clearer: If **Arizona state statute **forbids local authorities from supplying a bith certificate, then…

  1. They’re obliged to comply with state statute in the first instance.

  2. The first certificate they deny, the person claiming entitlement to it, or their lawyers, the ACLU, People for the American Way, Old Uncle Tom Cobley and all, will be in Federal court claiming a violation of that person’s rights under Amendment XIV.

  3. The court reads the plain text of that Amendment and voids Arizona’s law as unconstitutional.

  4. Appeals if taken uphold the trial court, again on the clear, plain textual content of Amendment XIV.

U shd sned ths 2 ur Congrsmn 4 him 2 take appropriate action on it. Kthxbai!

We have to do something. I have to shovel my drivewway of all the anchor babies piling up, they are clogging my gutters, and what about the rash of anchor baby crimes sprees.

Its a real problem.

Mexican immigrants are 99.99% against illegal immigration??!! That is 100% bullshit.

Your ignorance is showing once again. The worlds’s richest man, Carlos Slim, is of Lebanese descent. Salam Hayek the same. One of my best friends is also of Lebanese descent, the last name is Karam. My comadre’s (I hope using the Spanish word is allowed) mother’s name was Minakata which is Japanese.

You don’t think most mexicans who went to the time and trouble of immigrating LEGALLY wouldnt be a bit miffed at all those that said “fuck it, I’ll do what I want” and came here ILLEGALLY?

Oh, wait, they are mexicans too and ALL mexicans stick together! Oh, wait that would be racist…not that there is anything wrong with that…

Or were you too stupid to notice the word legal in front of the word immigrant in Lynn’s post?

Most legal immigrants I know have no love for illegal ones either.

Do you seriously think that Mexicans (or people of any other nationality) who immigrate legally don’t have friends, nd even close family members, who haven’t been fortunate enough to be able to do so? Or who have been in the queue to do so for many, many years? Reality isn’t so black and white.

You are one stupid bastard. I will bet you any amount you want that I know FAR more legal Mexican immigrants in your country than you’ll ever know. And none are upset in the least over undocumented aliens.

The simple truth is you are full of shit.

No, all the ones I know were born in test tubes, raised in a lab, and have no friends or relatives back in the home country

Of course they fucking do. Of course the ones I’ve known and met are smart enough to seperate their personal best interests from whats fair, legal, and wise from a national policy point of view.

Sure, they would probably love everyone they know back home to come on over too. But, again, most of em want it done LEGALLY.

Or are you saying mexicans in particular don’t give a fuck about the law when it comes to their own personal interests?

I know its shocking to some here, but in most people I’ve meet in life that play FAIR and by the rules generally expect other people to do the same. But maybe I just hang out with a better class of people?

Better get that afternoon siesta in cause your getting cranky.

You probably don’t know me, but I’ve been working in the immigration field for 20 years now in various capacities (refugee resettlement, immigration court interpreter, paralegal, etc.) I’ve dealt with (and worked with, and been friends and neighbors with) thousands upon thousands of immigrants, legal and otherwise. Suffice it to say my experience doesn’t match yours.

Also, your attitude is reprehensible.

Other people have pointed out specific cases, but I’d like to say that people of Asian descent, especially Chinese or Japanese, are actually quite common in South America. Particularly Peru and Brazil. See this Wikipedia entry:

Edited for punctuation? That was a joke, right?

An anchor baby took my job.

Not 99.9% of them. You wouldn’t find that 99.9% of Americans aren’t miffed at Osama bin Laden. 5-50% of people disagree with pretty much everything.

In any case, Hispanic Americans [overwhelmingly disapprove](More than four-in-five Hispanics (81%) say that immigration enforcement should be left mainly to the federal authorities rather than the local police; 76% disapprove of workplace raids; 73% disapprove of the criminal prosecution of undocumented immigrants who are working without authorization; and 70% disapprove of the criminal prosecution of employers who hire undocumented immigrants. A narrow majority (53%) disapproves of a requirement that employers check a federal database to verify the legal immigration status of all prospective hires) of methods used to curb illegal immigration, which suggests that billfishand Lynn are indeed full of shit:

That’s “Dey terk er jerbs!”, please

For some reason the quote thingy is giving me trouble.

There is A DIFFERENCE between not liking HOW illegal immigration is dealt with and being FOR illegal immigration.

Tell us how many LEGAL mexican immigrants are FOR illegal immigration.

And BTW, why do only mexican legal immigrants get a vote on this? What about the legal immigrants from other countries? Or are mexicans special somehow?
