Not surprising.
That is pretty sick. Unlawful assembly with guns, I hope the National Guard is being activated.
I don’t support or sympathize with the group but find it interesting how differently they are labeled by the media than the BLM groups.
The BLM groups also had armed members (caught on video as a car is shot at). But when it’s the right it becomes a “heavily armed mob” and “chaotic” vs “mostly peaceful.”
The Oregonian says “several dozen” demonstrators. Morons, the lot of them, but hardly a “mob.”

No one reply to this potential hijack.
Apologies, being in P&E I thought it was fair game to discuss differences in media coverage. I did not intend to hijack.
I told you this would happen in Biden’s America.
Oh. No. Wait …

I live deep in Trump country in Oregon, and yes, this isn’t surprising.
The majority of people around here believe that Kate Brown is a absolute dictator who can (and is, of course) ruling by fiat and decree. Further, a lot of people locally believe that Democrats and liberals are actual enemies of America who are determined to bring its destruction – the literal annihilation of America as a sovereign nation. Because Reasons, I guess.
I am a Boy Scout leader. One of the boys in my troop was talking (before the election) about how the staff at his private, uber-Christian parochial school believe that Liberals suffer from a disease – an actual genetic defect that causes changes in thinking so that they believe in abolishing the 2A, turning the country communist (or socialist, because of course the two things are synonymous) , and all that nonsense. This is something that is actively being taught to children by Trump’s acolytes. I’ve seen this opinion shared on local Facebook groups and the like as well; it is very widespread.
So it does not surprise me that the people who have been drinking the right-wing Kool-Aid since the Bush II administration believe that bullshit like this is justified. Morons like Dallas Heard just fuel their delusions (and suffers many of them himself).
Nice to know the OSP is willing to use the same measures against the white supremacist armed mobs as they were quick to use against unarmed protesters in Portland–the amount of footage of local Salem cops coddling Proud Boys and getting all chummy with them was, frankly, sick making. And these shitheads were breaking in through doors and windows trying to get into the capitol building–I’m not gonna shed ANY tears when a few of them get what they’re so obviously itching for.
My thoughts exactly: when militias takeover buildings, police are extra careful not to trigger anything as they know it’ll lead to a shootout with mass casualties and the right wing politicians and media will call them big government thugs.
If one black guy so much as reaches for his cell phone at the wrong moment…he gets shot 25 times.
Justice in Amerikkka.

It’s ugly just considering who showed up.
It’s not that all that different from what we’ve seen in Michigan, but having lived in Oregon, I know a little more of its background. There is an extremist element that you don’t see in a lot of other places, except for perhaps neighboring Eastern Washington and Idaho. That’s why I posted the link - I take them more seriously there than I do in other states.
The Republican party in Oregon doesn’t just dip its toes in extremist rhetoric; it often plunges right into that pool. If something were to go off the rails, I would expect to happen there in the Northwest (or Texas).
