I think this week was far better than the seconde season premier last week. They’re back on track.
With regards to the ribbon cutting and and the house. Just as the ribbon was about to be cut, my friend and I turned to each other and said, “you know what’s going to happen, huh?” Not having seen the previews. And it was still funny. That kind of predictable slapstick can be just as funny as something not expected. Same thing with the Buster’s induction physical. You just knew that they were going to take him.
You obviously don’t understand comedy. Houses have to fall apart during ribbon cutting, its a rule. But thats not really the joke. More like a vehicle for a joke.
I remember sitting back after the show and thinking “That boat’s name is going to show up again,” but I never even caught that they’d already made that joke with Lucille until reading this thread.
Mike and GOB were talking about the boat, the “Seaward.” Their mother thought they were saying “C-Word,” and naturally assumed they were talking about her.
He actually whispered just loud enough to be heard. The line was “And my reproductive organ is shaped like a lobster tail. Only without the shell.”
I don’t watch the show regularly - what I’ve seen has been funny - but I will now. That episode was hilarious. And I didn’t even notice the “covered by the paper” and “C-word” jokes.
Count me in as delighted with these two episodes. I’m glad George Michael had a minor growth spurt - he looks a lot cuter, yet not that much different. And who could resist a glittering diamond-dusted David Cross!
There is something radically different about Portia DiRossi this season, but I can’t put my finger on it. She is a bit thinner, but there’s something different about her hair and makeup, too. I read an article about her this weekend and I was so happy to finally solve one mystery about her. She always has a couple odd pronounciations, and I could never figure out what regional dialect it is. Turns out she’s from Austrailia! In light of that, her American accent is pretty damn good.
I love this show - and it’s taking a long time to work my way through the DVD, since there’s so much great material!
Her eyebrows are fuller and darker. It’s funny because I’m going through a phase of darkening and growing in my eyebrows and I am about Portia’s age and I call it the Joan Crawford syndrome which is that the older you get the more you have to have big fake eyebrows to draw attention away from everything else. This is more probably more eyebrow backstory than you need but it proves my credentials in knowing exactly what is different about her face.
There was some discussion about this on the Television W/O Pity messageboard. It looks like it may be a gaffe, but this show is so meticulously produced I don’t see how they’d miss something like that. I’d be willing to bet an explanation is forthcoming.
The absence of Kitty’s boobs is obviously a set-up, given how prominent they were throughout the last half of S1. (Yes, that’s meant as a double entendre.)
I was watching one of the making of documentaries on the DVD set this weekend and it’s funny to see interviews with Michael Cera (George Michael) and Alia Shawkat (Maeby). In real life, Cera is very cool, well-spoken, and confident, while Shawkat is giggly and says “um” or “like” every third word. Now that’s acting.
I thought that this season so far has oicked up right where it left off; all the characters behave just like they would have last season, IMO.
Upon further re-viewing, I noticed that the blue truck that blue Tobias was clinging to was for “Blendin” moving and storage.
So many sight gags I can’t keep up with them. I didn’t think this episode was funny until I watched it a second time. Helps to put the subtitles on, too, to catch all the lines.
I loved this episode, maybe as well as last week’s. Especially:
Tobias’ “I think your knee is on my heart.” And then “Why aren’t I blacking out?!?” Oh and “Secondively…”
Everything from George Michael as usual.
GOB’s “business model” and the photocopies. And the return of the chicken dance.
Everything from Buster, especially his ill-fated trip to Mexico. Great great stuff.
Only disappointment? They got Maeby and Annie McNoface (aka “Egg” aka “Hog” aka “Plant”) in the same car for three hours and we don’t see any conflict? Shameful!
Oh, and another great guest appearance this week, this time with Martin Mull as Gene Parmesean.
Can’t wait for next week. This show is just so awesome.
