Is it me or did tonight’s episode seem a little… off? I mean, I enjoyed it but there didn’t seem to be as many rapid-fire visual gags and bon mots as usual.
Still, there were a few keepers.
POOF magazine.
George Michaels accidental discovery of Bluth, Sr.'s Hussein-style spider-hole, complete with Hussein’s hairstyle and dental exam.
Lindsey wearing a red ‘SLUT’ t-shirt to her father’s wake to impress the bounty hunter, Ice. (“An outfit her daughter picked out for her to wear.”)
My favorite joke of the show: a depressed George Michael, head hanging down and walking slowly, walked by a giant red doghouse with a beagle sleeping atop it with the ‘sad interlude’ Charlie Brown theme playing in the background.
That recurring joke amused me greatly. I don’t know that I’ll ever hear that snippet again without cracking a smile.
G.O.B.'s incident with the gay co-worker was funny, but the SLUT shirt was the winner for me. (Knowing that people would get mad George Michael is with Ann again instead of Maeby. ;)) I can’t wait for when they finally do something with the mock-soap opera ‘Oscar is Buster’s father’ thing.
My favorite gags were the ones about Rosa, when Buster found her responsible for the death of his beloved parakeet:
“He completely demolished the kitchen, where he thought Rosa lived…Michael remembered what Buster had done to what he thought was Rosa’s car [cut to a bus] with her favorite toy [Mini-Buster flings a Dustbuster at the window].”
Can somebody point out the joke when “Michael remembered when Buster had heard Captain Kangaroo had died”?
There’s a shot of what looks to be the living room in a complete shambles. I kept expecting to see a prominently displayed smashed TV (since Buster would think CK lived in the television), but I didn’t see anything beyond the room in disarray. What did I miss?
Any show thayt can use “Happiness” (that’s the “Sad Interlude Charlie Brown Song”) to such great effect (see also The Royal Tennenbaums) gets a thumbs up from me. I was wondering how they were going to bring George back, and they did a great job.
“The fact that you call making love ‘Pop-Pop’ proves that you aren’t ready.”
I have to admit chuckling at Buster’s “regulation” uniform and the idea that the army had a half-day. Plus the loophole in the Mexican legal system. And “I could have you out of here and living on the street inside of a month.” / “Cool.”
I found it a little odd, though, that when Michael announces that Pop-pop is in that attic, everyone (including the bounty hunter) instantly believes him.
I dunno what the OP was talking about. I thought this was a great episode. I’ll say second best of the second season, after the Rock-Paper-Scissors one. My only complaint was that they didn’t have GOB throw the pennies at the Board members. That always kills me.
One of the previous knowing hints was that Lucille really wasn’t pregnant with Buster for 11 months. Presumably she hadn’t had sex with George for two months before Oscar knocked her up, thus she had to really postdate the pregnancy.
I really liked the final payoff joke that they hadn’t quite gotten around to unburying GOB…
What I love about this show is that it combines so many types of humor within its 22 minutes a week, and last night’s episode was typical:
–Absurd pop-culture references: “Did I really just see a beagle asleep on top of a red doghouse?”
–Physical comedy: The coffin falling on GOB as the trick goes awry. And Buster’s dance/
–Verbal zingers: Maeby offering her mom to Ice–“She cleans up nice”. Buster’s “The army had a half-day today.”
–Echoes of reality: George looking like Saddam Hussein in his cubbyhole. Is Iraq a theme in any other sitcom on the air right now?
While I agree that the second season hasn’t yet taken flight, this was the best epsiode so far. How is it doing in the ratings? Any danger of it being suddenly canceled? I don’t know where to find complete Nielsens, all I can find are Top Ten shows each night.
Did anyone else notice the allusion to the first seasn at the end? George Sr. hid in the very same sarcophagus that failed to hide him from the police in the first episode.
I guess he was lucky Ice didn’t have a dog.
Also, this episode would have been 100x better if it had Parmesan.
This episode was side splitting funny! Buster destroying the kitchen because he thought that is where Rosa lived and throwing the dustbuster at the bus because he thought he was throwin her favorite toy at her car was just hilarious! Keeping the wake from Buster was great as well. Especially his ‘army uniform’ and his reaction to the news dad was dead.
“The fact that you call making love pop-pop shows that you aren’t ready” was just a perfect line.
Though I also love the line at the end, when they believe Oscar has escaped and you hear the lawyer saying “And I just found the will!”!
