True, but you’d think that he’d at least start out somewhat respectful. Of course, I missed the actual episode where they adopted him in the first place; was there something more to the story from his side of things?
I would swear I’ve seen all the episodes, but where did Ann come from? Was she ever properly introduced?
This is a whoosh, if I’ve ever seen one!
One question I wanted to ask about this (and past) episode was:
Why do they keep treating Tobias as an idiot when he is giving psychological advice?
Because despite the heimlich maneuver incident, wasn’t he a respected shrink before he went into “acting”? Wasn’t he the head of a psychiatric medicine at a prestigious Boston hospital?
Is it a commentary on psychiatry, him as a person, or has he had a nervous breakdown?
I understand why his life would be in shambles (the maid’s bed is never made), but when analyzing others, why is he SO wrong!?
No, she just shows up in the Bluth house one day and Michael thinks she’s selling something intitially until George Michael announces that Ann is his girlfriend. We were never told how they met or anything.
Because he IS an idiot? Just a guess.
Doctors Frasier and Niles Crane were both respected, but if I knew them in real life I probably wouldn’t want to get psychological advice from them. Because they, like Tobias, are rather bizarre.
Plus, none of them really like Tobias. Lindsay only married him to piss off her parents.
Actually, we met her at the end of last season. She came up to GM at the banana stand and had a conversation so inane that Maeby’s eyes almost rolled back in her head permanently. Ann eventually invited GM back to her house to watch his appearance on the evening news (which sadly, ended up getting cut).
Later Maeby complained about Ann to Michael, saying “She has like no face. You couldn’t pick her out of a line-up of one!”
They don’t like him, and he’s a complete loser. It’d be hard to take advice from somebody who has so many obvious problems.
Oops. I was unclear. By “they” I meant the writers not the family. :smack:
It’s just that he gives such BAD advice, it makes you wonder whether he was EVER good at psychiatry!
I’m back on board.
Fantastic episode - on par with much of last season. For those who loved the beagle atop the red dog house, no one has mentioned the two people carrying the scraggly Christmas tree that immediately preceeded it!
I’m now off to buy some stripper pants.
I don’t remember this at all. Was it only on the DVDs?
Did you ever see the S1 finale, walrus? It wasn’t advertised and many people missed it.

Wow, I’m going to believe that the writers did that on purpose–made her so forgettable I couldn’t remember her just a few weeks after seeing the episode–and attribute it to their genius…
Rather than my shoddy short-term memory.
I guess I didn’t. Well, yet another reason to get the DVDs.
Hey! Ann does have a face!
She must. I just recognized her in her guest spot on tonight’s CSI.
“Here he comes… here comes John Wayne.” That was my favorite line. I have been a huge fan of David Cross’ since Mr. Show was on the HBO.
Also, if anyone wants a copy of one of the episodes, you can find them on Bit Torrent. Comes in handy when you miss an episode.
Does anyone know of a list of these little subtle jokes (besides these threads) for each episode? I got the season I DVDs two nights ago and I’m working my way through them. I’m sure I’m missing a ton of references on first viewing. Amongst the only things I’ve picked up is a quick glace of Henry Winkler doing the Fonz pose and a few others here or there. It is still hilariously funny and I’m going to watch them repeatedly, but I have a feeling I’m missing a lot as well.
