Arrested Development 2/13

Slacker pretty much hit most of the funny parts I would have noted. The episode was good DESPITE Martin Short.

A few random thoughts:

  • IS it me or is Tambor being wasted in the attic? It is really limiting his role on the series. The show was better when he was in prison.

  • “Four Minutes Later” HAH! I loved Buster in this episode. He was so over the top in dropping people with the death grip. It’s like he went out of his way to find targets.

  • “Take a Bullet” for the family.

  • The Bullet as a romantic lead.

  • It’s funny how Tobias’s language always seems to target Michael. Man crush? And Michael has called Tobias on his slips before. I recall a conversation about Blue-ing him in the kitchen.

  • It is a shame that the Maeby Does Hollywood storyline fell to the wayside. That was comedy GOLD! She needs a bigger role than just being the one who makes sarcastic comments.

  • CHICKEN DANCE x 2! When she started doing it, I started laughing because I KNEW Gob was coming!

Excellent points watsonwil, especially…

Word! We need him back in prison now.

And I definitely agree about Maeby - we need more of her. And George Michael for that matter. That’s why I think some of the guest stars irk me - there’s so many great characters to explore, and we get one line a week from them while Martin Short gets half the episode. >_<

It was. I hope they’re not done with that.

It was, yeah. But I’m pretty sure that wasn’t a chicken. It sounded more like a horse. Not that GOB sounds a lot like a chicken, but you at least know what he’s doing.

Nah. She had the fingers on her head doing a roster’s comb. HAD to be Lindsay’s chicken dance! She’s not exactly bright!

Ahhh, you’re probably right. It could be a rooster’s comb. I thought it could be like a horse’s mane, and “chee-chaw” was sort of like a hooves clip-clopping thing. It still sounds nothing like a rooster, but then, these people are idiots. I guess she copied the dance from her older brother, so it’s even more derivative and weird.

If he keeps going “Rambuster”, he might just turn into an insensitive sadistic prick like GOB, which would be hysterical in and of itself.

As for characters getting short-changed; all the more reason this show needs to be moved to cable and extended to hour-long episodes.

The dueling chicken dance was priceless. And the line that made me almost spew the mouthful of coca-cola was “I’m sorry – I thought it was a pool toy!”

Some of the Martin Short bits were a little too much, but overall, I thought this episode was hilarious! We definitely need more Maebe. And I’ll echo the sentiment that dad was great in prison – he still has some funny moments in the attic, but the problem is that he only gets to interact with Michael now (and not any of the other characters). His interactions with others (including fellow prisoners) were always great stuff.

You know… I wonder if the Martin Short guest apparence was planned mostly with the sagging ratings in mind, and a potential cancelation. Short is a fairly big name, but he does mostly slapstick type of stuff, not the subtle comedy that Arrested Development is known for.

I just re-watched the episode, as is my habit, and I’m pretty sure about the following two things:

Buster’s line “These kind of skills?” (referring to his stealth skills from the Army) has the same wording and inflection as Tobias’s line from Season One about his ‘catlike agility.’

When Lindsay announces that Uncle Jack is going to make her President, she delivers the line the same way GOB did when he told Michael he was going to be President.
