Arrested Development - February 8, 2004

My favorite bit was a few weeks ago- when the family hired a publicist (can’t remember the name) to improve their failing public image. When Michael told her that she was fired, she angrily called him “Opie”.

The Narrator said “She had gone too far, and had best watch herself.”

It’s only funny if you know that the Narrator is played by Ron Howard, who played Opie on the Andy Griffith Show, way back when.

If a television series had been made out of The Royal Tennenbaums, I guess it would be pretty close to this, though the TV series is lighter on the tragedy stuff.

“It wasn’t four times, it was four women!

I first started watching this show when Fox ran a mini-marathon of the first 5 episodes on New Years Eve. I haven’t missed an episode since. Arrested Development, Scrubs, and the Simpsons are the funniest shows on TV by far.

I generally like the show a lot but I thought the whole hermano mixup thing was contrived and stupid.

Hey, did anyone else notice that Arrested Development wasn’t on last night? Instead, Fox showed an extra Simpsons rerun from earlier this season (the one where Homer becomes a battle bot). Has it been canceled? Put on hiatus? Moved to a different day?

And we can’t find any upcoming episodes listed in our Tivo. Please, please, please tell me it wasn’t cancelled. Wouldn’t we have heard something? :frowning:

According to TV Tome (Synopsis here–minor spoilers), the next new episode will air on March 7.

While I agree, it did have value in that it showed that Michael, while the “smart” Bluth, is being compared with some mighty dim bulbs.

And it begins :frowning:

Agreed with the “Hermano” mixup. I can see GOB not getting it (he only had four years of Spanish), but not Michael.

I’ve heard that the show was renewed, so hopefully it will be back next year. One reason to think so is that the producers, Ron Howard and Brian Glazer, have some serious juice in Hollywood.

And if we’re talking funny quotes . . .

TOBIAS: “You selfish Country music lover!” (It’s funnier if you know that he’s arguing with his wife and doesn’t know his daughter is listening.)

MICHAEL: “See you all when the first parent dies.”

MICHAEL: (to his sister who is staying in a tree as a protest) “See you once you realize what the bucket is for.”

The entire storyline about GOB escaping from the prison his dad is in, being stabbed by White Power Bill. “WHITE POWER!” (stabs GOB) “But I’m white!”

“What the hell did you think I meant when I said there was money in the banana stand?”

Oh, and it’s not on next week because Fox is airing Star Wars–Episode 1 opposite the Oscars.

GOB, after being stabbed: “Am I still in prison?”
LUCILLE: “You’re in the hospital.”
GOB: (weakly) "Ta-da . . . "

You can always tell a Milford man.

I’ve seen every episode of AD and it is by far the best show on TV… tied with Curb Your Enthusiasm… and it’s damn stupid for Fox to put it on opposite CYE… the audience that would like AD is probably already tuned in to HBO to watch Larry David. So now AD, in all its brilliance, is on a 3 week hiatus. Why? So we can watch Bernie Mac? Well guess what Fox, we won’t watch Bernie Mac. Never have, never will.

Fox is notorious for cancelling great, brilliant shows (Family Guy, Futurama)… I hope Arrested Development isn’t next. I love this show… along with CYE it’s the only show I routinely watch. I hope it comes out on DVD sometime soon.
